My grandson is 11yrs old, he has been shooting both with his dad and myself for the last 4-5 years. When he first started shooting it was with a Daisy pellet rifle, he brought his airgun over and I set up a target so he could shoot down the hall way. I made the mistake of saying - I will give you $1.00 for each bullseye you get, after around 10 perfect shots I called it off. Today we were out back shooting, he brought his Henry with a scope I had given to him only to discover the scope was really a piece of junk. I let him use my Ruger 10/22 with a Red Dot mounted. Placed a new splatter target up about 30-40 ft and let him fire off three rounds. We walked up to target and you could only see two holes, grandson said I don't see how I could have missed. Turn the targer over and you could see that two of the rounds actually hit almost perfectly over each other and the third was very close. Then to top off the day he wanted to shoot my .270, both his dad and myself warned it was not like shooting the 22, but he really wanted to shoot. After he got in a prone position I handed him one round, he chambered the round and then after what seemed to be 5 min he let it rip. Eyes wide and a grin from ear to ear all he said was can I shoot it again. Let him fire two rounds and both were centered and just about 1/2 - 3/4" high. Not to bad for a 11yr old.

Do the kid a favor and find him a small bore club. Then work him into High Power with a service rifle when he is ready. Sounds like he is ready to move up a little and at 11 just about the right age to learn how. He will thank you.
