Taking the grandson shooting ... 10-22's

I always thought we'd start when he was 10 and they usually come down a couple times a year but didn't make it at all last year, so he's 11 now. We've been shooting BB guns since he was 8 so its not completely new to him but this year I told him if he wants to shoot a real gun he has to memorize the 4 most important rules of safe gun handleing and he recited them, and their definitions just as I gave them too him;

1. Always Keep The Muzzle Pointed In A Safe Direction …
All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.

2. Firearms Should Be Unloaded When Not Actually In Use …
Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

3. Don't Rely On Your Gun's "Safety" …
Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of accidental shootings / discharges.

4. Be Sure Of Your Target And What's Beyond It …
Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.

Here are our weapons of mass distruction! I have a few reactive targets to set up as well as some ballons and paper targets ... should be a good day

The only thing better than shooting is shooting with your grandchildren! Good for you for starting him out early. We started ours a little younger and continually reinforce the "rules". My (then 8 year old, now 11) is my range officer and she keeps a close eye on everybody.

Good for you sir and enjoy your day. Even though the day will seem short, the memories will last a lifetime....for both of you!
