Treated my Son and 18 yr. old Grandson to a Tactical Pistol Course 3 weeks ago.
My son shot his G17 and I gave my Grandson his pick of several Glocks and 1911's. His choice was a 1911 Norinco that Tuner had reworked for me and installed a used Colt barrel.

He did really well with it. Today I carried him and his girlfriend to the range and let him shoot it some more.
Came home, showed him how to strip and clean it.
As they started to leave, I gave him the pistol, several mags, 200 rds. of ammo, a cleaning kit, a new Desantis holster and double mag. carrier.

He was shocked but very happy and I told him that it was a gift for finishing High School as a honor student.

This was an addition to helping his father and himself fix up a 1965 Mustang Shelby Clone.

Awesome gift! Awesome grandson to pick a 1911 over a Block :)

I was 19 when I got my very first pistol from a family friend, also a 1911. Though... Mine wasn't worked on by Tuner, I'm a little jealous! Got me stuck on 1911s... My Sig loving father just doesn't understand.

Mine's a beater, a WW2 era Ithaca slide on a newer Auto-Ord frame, but it was my first handgun and I'll never part with it, I doubt your grandson will ever part with his.

It kinda shocked me when he picked the full size Norinco over a Norinco Compact(Commander size) and a Colt Combat Commander.

We need more grandpas like you. Great job. I still have the .22 my dad gave me when I was 7. That was almost 53 years ago. Got my grandson a Crickett for his first birthday. There is a G19 in the safe for him when he gets older.

Awesome memories. I shot a lot with Dad. Great memories.

Glad to read stories like this.

Thanks for sharing.

Wow, what a great story. It's always nice seeing youngsters choose the classic guns over the more modern plastic stuff. In all honesty, that Norinco, with its hard tool steel, will probably outlast him.

You're one great (as in awesome, not in lineage), grandfather! That was a super thing to do and sure to give him a lifetime of shooting enjoyment and fond memories as to how he came by it.

Wow a shooter, honor student, and a shade tree wrencher.
We need more kids like him.
I got a grand daughter following that path, but the grandson is only 2. I cant wait.

Well done grandpa!

Maybe he just prefers clones! :what:

Seriously though, you are doing us all a great service by passing down the tradition of responsible gun ownership. Not to mention introducing the girlfriend to the idea as well.

PS - at least he didn't pick the G-Lock.

Well done to all!

My dad promised me the .22 he taught me to shoot, then shortly after mom died I found out he gave it to my younger brother.

I promised my daughter she would get my Colt Police Positive. You can bet I'll keep my word to her.

That is just a cool story. I have a T series BHP, S&W K22, and a Hi Standard 107 put away for my son. If I have grandchildren they will get something timeless also. Way to keep the faith going! We should all try to do the same.

Unless your family is independently wealthy it would have been better for you to give him money toward university education. You know, like money for books.

Have to agree you'd be an awesome grandfather. Don't think mine is into guns but my dad finally gave me the first .22 I learned on, a Beretta 87 Cheetah, only took about 15 years.

What, give him $1000 bucks that'll be gone and forgotten buying books within days?

Or a special gift that'll last forever, reminding the grandson each time he looks at it of all the good times ever spent with grandpa?

Easy choice and he made the right one.

Teach your kids to work for money, it seems he has already been taught to plan ahead and has the grades to get him into a good school, probably on a scholarship.
The timelessness of your first gun will live longer than any money.
Good on you gramps.

I forgot to add that I also treated them to a 2 day Appleseed shoot 4 yrs. ago.
I shot an M1A, Son my AR and Grandson a 10/22 with Tech Sights.
At my age I got tired Sunday and my Son took over the M1A , Grandson took over the AR.
