Very cool! Should help along with the normal smithing videos for detailed teardowns and reassembly.

Incredible. Now if they can just render an exploding Glock! runs for cover!

The correct order of assembly isn't accurate...

Glad somebody else noticed that as well. I was wondering if this guy knew something I didn't.

Nothing wrong with the assembly, kinda like skinnin' a cat..what it doesn't give you are those little kernals of information that only come from experience.

What order of assembly was wrong?

Frame:

The grip safety went in ahead of the mainspring housing. A surefire way to get the sear spring all fugasi.

The thumb safety went in before the mainspring housing was pinned. Gotta cock the hammer to install the thumb safety. If the mainspring housing isn't pinned, the strut just pushes the housing out...and the sear spring pops out. Without the sear spring, the sear won't go into the correct position for thumb safety installation.

Slide:

The recoil guide rod was installed without the spring. Slide goes on. Good way to cock the standard guide rod and tie things up.

Bushing went in next to last...just before the spring plug. Bushing should be installed right after the barrel...just before the guide rod and spring...and rotated counter-clockwise as viewed from the muzzle.

THEN, the slide goes on...slidestop...then the spring is compressed and the plug installed. Then rotate the bushing to capture the plug. Done.

For a pistol without extra bells and whistles...starting with a fully assembled gun...the entire detail strip shouldn't take more than a minute to a minute and a half.

A practiced hand can do it in under a minute...not including the grip panels.

Reassembly shouldn't take more than 3 minutes...and with practice can be done in about 90 seconds. Series 80 frames come apart in about the same amount of time, and require a bit more for reassembly because of the trigger and plunger levers.

Series 80 slides take 15-20 seconds longer to take apart, and maybe a half-minute longer to reassemble.
