Would it not be against the law to convert that to full auto? Has there been any legal way to do that since 1986?

There are many FNC registered auto sears in the country. This is the full auto part for an FNC. The sear is an NFA item. So this is legal provided you go through all of the applicable ATF rules to get the sear.

Last I heard there are more registered auto sears available than there are FNCs to put them in.

Lest anyone still deny that gun control is prejudice and shares roots with racism as a scourge of humanity, it should be clear by now that gun control is more about control than it is about guns. Like the first NFA way back in 1934 that gave us registered full autos and $200 tax stamps (this is $200 in 1934, during the Depression) we see further bigotry against lower and middle classes in nearly every past and present peice of gun control legislation. And those that condone it have the testicular fortitude to claim the high road? It is like saying that lynching a black man is okay as long as you do it for the children. That is what you have to believe to support gun control.
