I had a couple of spare hours today so I headed off to the local indoor range. I usually like to shoot outside, but my schedule has been killing me lately.

Anyways, I picked up a Ruger GP100 in 22lr with a 5.5 inch barrel and got it out for the first time today. It was a blast and I fired about 350 rounds through it today with no problems. The sights were pretty much dead on from the factory and one click to the left, put me on the bull at 25 yards. This is a fabulous revolver and very accurate. I did not really shoot for groups, more for just fun, but I was able to keep all rounds in a 4" circle using the double action and about half dollar sized with the single action at the 25 yard line.

I also brought my Alaskan to play with. Switching between the .22 and the .44 greatly improved my shooting with the Alaskan. I would shoot about 40-50 rounds with the GP and then shoot about 12 with the Alaskan. The Alaskan has a better trigger, but they are both distinctly Ruger in feel. I did not take any pics at the range, but here they are getting ready to be cleaned up for a chance to shoot next weekend.

I've been thinking about a 22 cal GP for awhile. Wish someone had one for rent by me.

I've shot a 4" S&W 617 and liked it, but I don't have a GP100 in my collection. Wouldn't mind having one.

Thanks for the post, ECVMatt. I don't have either of those models, But I need to try swapping off between my 22 and my 44, to see if it moderates whatever it is that I'm doing to make the 44 rounds scatter.

Given my passion for big-bores and snubbies I have long lusted after an Alaskan. Sounds like a great time at the range! Your stamina is as impressive as your shooting; I can't remember the last time I shot 350 rounds of anything all at once...
