For Sale-
Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan Revolver in .480 Ruger! This revolver is awesome, and looks great. It is in excellent to new condition, complete with everything i got when I bought it new-storage case, manuals, etc. Fun to shoot, not for the weak or timid. (c: Includes a box of Hornady XTP ammo. Thanks!

$660.00 obo. May consider trades for other firearms.

Being an Arizonian I think you'd be much better served with a Nuevo Vaquero in 45colt. But if you want a unique gun and reload go for it. Its a cool gun but has limited application in the outdoors unless you force it. You might also consider the 454 casull which has better ballistics and can shoot 45colt also. Good luck

I bought a NIB Alaskan in 454/45 about six weeks ago for $659.00. It is a fun gun with which to play around - not too many grizzly bears left in western Oregon. Don't know what it is like in your part of the world but, here in Oregon, both 480 Alaskans and 480 ammo are hard to come by. When you can get it, 480 ammo is really expensive. Not intended to be a slam on 480 - just its price here.

I'm poking at the idea of getting the Alaskan snubbie in .454 and using it for a carry gun, loaded with .45 Colt ammo. As far as an outdoorsman's handgun, I don't think you can go wrong with the 5.5" Redhawk in .44 magnum. I have a 6" S&W 629 that fills that niche and am very pleased with it.

Any critter that requires more stopping power than a .44 magnum handgun needs to be addressed with a long gun, IMHO.

I have one.

Great gun. Factory ammo is fairly expensive and is generally not as readily available as more the more common, older and more established calibers. Also, most store-bought ammo tends not to be loaded to the cartridges full potential. However, excellent full-house loads are available from Buffalo Bore and Grizzly Cartridge and several other other mail-order companies. If you are fortunate enough to load your own, this round can be pumped up real good. Power is awesome for a gun of it's size; stick with 400+ grain bullets, tighten your belt, pull up your socks and try not to flinch!
