This illustrates what I've long thought that "gun people" are some of the nicest on earth.

Everyone time I get fed up with people, someone comes along and does something to remind me that there are some really good folks out there

This is a truly touching story; come to think of it...
Some would have not returned the handgun, George Berry is a great man in my eyes

Great Story....
I always assume there are still stand up people in the World.. nice to see it confirmed.

Thank you for posting this.

Wow! thats great. I am curious as to why the gun was sold as it was stolen. He obviously knew the serial #, how come a red flag didn't go up when the auction house was selling it. Regardless, two men of great integrity.

Somebody either did not check it through NCIC, or if you have ever seen a return from NCIC on guns you would quickly understand how it can slip through the cracks... many different manufactures of the 1911, was it entered as a Colt, or a Springfield or other mil contractor as the manufacturer? Was it check against the same mfg? looks like a Colt, must be a Colt, but it was actually made by ?... often times SN's are duplicated, not within a single MFG, but same number used by another MFG in another caliber... if not properly entered, it will throw the system off.. or give you 25 returns, can't all be the same gun... there are many ways it can slip through the cracks... The system is not infallable, and it is only as good as the combination of the Data Entry Clerk, or the person checking it.. and face it, not all police officers, or police employees are gun experts..

Btw.. there is something in my eyes too... Great story...!

Karma. Good things happen to good people. Now hopefully the thief will/has gotten his share of the karma coin..........
