I just thought that I would share this pic taken in MN. A friend of mine sent it to me.

Awesome pic, looks like supper will soon be served.

I have found tracks on our place in E.Texas, but never laid eyes on anything bigger than a Bobcat. My friends place an hour west of us had fresh tracks this past weekend on one of the pipeline right aways. Several have been seen in that area.

Does make you wonder sometimes when walking to or from the stand in the dark, who is hunting who.
 
I wonder what the next several pictures would have been like. That is a great picture.
 
Wow thats awesome, We have them here in Arkansas although Arkansas Game and Fish wont admit it. I know a couple of farmers that have killed them near our place.
 
Somewhere I read some criticism of this pic with regards to if its fake or not.

I don't know, buy I don't doubt that a cougar could sneak up on a deer like that...kinda spooky, just think of how many times you have probably been seen by a cougar but you had no idea they were there.
 
MN? My guess is that is a mule deer. that pic has been floating around for a while and I have it listed as most every state in the Union. Great picture none the less!

Did your friend take the picture? How did he see it there in the dark in the first place to know to take the photo? May have called it in, I suppose, and hit it with the spotlight, but if he was preditor calling, then why wasn't he shooting bullets instead of film? I know which I'd have been shooting (not at the deer, of course).
 
Hmmm, pretty neat. What do you do, just set a camera up out in the sticks and wait for something to show up? How does it know when to go off, i.e. click the shutter?

Motion activated and they have a flash now days as well or at least mine does.
 
Well, I am young (mid 60's), but unfortunately, not rural. There is a relatively big city only 10 miles away here in N. Nevada. But no, I never heard of a trail camera. Might be kind of a fun thing to get photos like that. But you would only get 1 per nite unless you had a fancy camera that wound itself. I believe my camera turns itself off after 3 minutes. How do you get it to stay on? Getting it to go off when a critter walked by would be a slick trick.
 
moosehunt, look at the links. You can snap many many many pics per night - hundreds if you want it to and there's enough activity - it goes off with every movement.

You can set them to take 1, 2, 3, or more pics in rapid succession (or even a video clip) per movement event encountered. You then set them to then re-set & wait, and not start to take any more pics until it sees NEW movement, with the lag time in between sets of pics being set by you, at whatever you want - 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 1 hour, anything (so that you don't use up your disk space with 400 pics of Mr. Squirrel, Mr. Raccoon, Mr. Dove, & Mr. Crow).

These ain't your grandpappy's cameras. :)

I would call Northern NV, 10 miles from the nearest ("relatively big") city pretty darned rural, but our definitions may vary. :p I am very glad to know that 60s is young, too, since I'm getting there before too long! I thought maybe you were a tweener or teen. :) Maybe since you hang these cams on trees, and there's no TREES in Nevada, they don't sell these there! :eek:
 
Well sir, you're right about the deficiency of trees here! Critters don't walk up and down trails, either. My camera runs out of film at about 22 or 23 photos. I reckon these new digital thingies have a bit more capacity. My camera seems to work just fine, so I see no reason to spend a bunch of bucks on a new fad to replace one that isn't broke!

got mine on sale for $25 can take around 3-5 hundred pic depending on card i put in it , that also only cost me $10.00
 
This reminds me of my favorite grandad story.
He swore he was stealthy enough to get right behind a deer, and put his finger in it's butthole. He always shook his head and said, "I was just never strong enough to hold him."
