Hey everybody,
I've just gotten (back?) into shooting a few months ago, so of course I've been reading the boards learning all I can. I've been wanting to post a question for some time, but every question I have, so far, had been discussed. (Usually ad nauseum. ) ( I just tried to insert a 'big grin' smiley, hopefully it worked.) I've been reading several firearm forums, and recently ran across a list of terms that included lurker . Apparently that's someone who reads all the boards, but doesn't register or post. Since I've never wanted to be anything like a lurker, I decided I might as well go ahead and get logged on. I've also seen the term troll, and don't like that either, so I hope I'm not one, whatever it means. If someone would elucidate me, I'd be grateful.
Being as I don't have much useful information to pass on...yet , I'll introduce myself briefly. Maybe not so briefly, so feel free to scroll to the end. (I promise, future posts will be much, much shorter.)
I live in the suburbs of Cooter, MO approximately a .22LR shot from Arkansas, and a 7.62x54R shot from Tennessee. When I got married and moved back to the bootheel (from St. Louis... go Rams) I looked out the back door and realized I could set up a .22 range, since there are about 3 miles of fields behind my house. I might kill a cotton plant, but that's about it. Anyway, I broke out Grandpa's old Remington 511 and got into rifles. I used to hunt with a shotgun in H.S., but hadn't really shot any since I moved away, and had never really shot rifles.
I quickly found out something that nobody warned me about. RIFLES ARE ADDICTING!!! I soon had a Ruger 10/22 and soon after that I realized that I wanted...guess what? That's right, a centerfire. So after getting a new Pump 12Ga, (It was rabbit season) I went out and got a Mosin Nagent 91/30. Much Fun! However, since I feel I should go to the range to shoot the Mosin, I put many more rounds through the .22s. Also, since I'm just starting, I need lots of practice. Basically, my accuracy is...shall we say...lacking. (That's probably being kind, but hey, I'm biased.)
My next purchase is going to be a Garand in .308 from a friend. His dad passed away last year, and he's going to liquidate some of the arsenal since he doesn't have the space for it. I may get an M1A since I'll be getting friend prices, but we'll see.
Being 1.5 miles from the dead center of nowhere, I'm always looking for entertainment, and I seemed to have developed quite a fondness for rifled firearms. I'll always love shotguns, but that's a different forum, I believe. I've tried fishing, but it's so hard to get a clean shot.
In conclusion, (finally), I've seen a lot of posts where the poster lists his firearm collection, so I'll do it here and not have to annoy everyone with it again.
Shotguns:
Single shot .410 - was my wife's dads.
20GA Remington 1148 autoloader - from Grandpa.
12GA Mossberg 500 pump - new purchase.
Rimfire:
Remington 511 bolt - from Grandpa.
Ruger 10/22. For all the obvious reasons.
Remington Speedmaster 552 - I love the 552 and just found this one at a pawn shop for $120. It shoots .22LR great, and as soon as I get it cleaned, I hope it will work as well with .22 short.
Centerfire:
Mosin Nagent 91/20 - This is my "starter" centerfire.
Handguns:
S&W 38 Spl snubnose - My wife's dad got her this when she went to college.
Sig P226 9mm - My wife actually bought this herself several years ago. It's strange, because she doesn't shoot, and doesn't really like firearms. She doesn't hate or fear them, just mostly indifferent. A bunch of people at the courthouse where she works were buying pistols (she's the court reporter) and she got one for no apparent reason. ( I keep telling myself this is not why I married her...but it didn't hurt. ) I wish she'd buy a 1911 for no apparent reason.
Well, that's it. That's my shooting background and my current firearm collection. Hope all is well with you and yours.
