Hello and Thank You!

I have been lurking on this site and this forum in particular for close to a year.

I thought you might like to know, with the excellent resource provided by this forum I was able to setup and start reloading. Last week I put the last 100 of my first 150 rounds down range, and I currently have another 100 ready for the next trip. I am loading .40 S&W with a Classic Turret.

When I read how reloading can become an addicting hobby, I though people were exaggerating. Man, was I wrong. I though I enjoyed shooting before. Adding the satisfaction of working up a load and having it go bang just the way it’s supposed to takes shooting to a whole new level.

Again, thank you to the members and moderators who have made this forum such a valuable resource!

Random thoughts on addiction....
• You're not really addicted until you have supplies of 5 different powders and 8 different bullets for the same gun !!

• Ever notice how much of the reloading lingo is the same in the drug trade? "Working up a load." "100 a day habit." "Couple of hits."

• If they ban all guns, will we be the ones driving over to the "bad side of town" to score a baggie of 4895 ?? A matchbox of 231 ??

• Druggies get great powder from the Netherlands. Reloaders get great powder from Finland.

I scored a couple of 3 Lb metal cans of W-231 some years back for a great price. That buzz lasted a while. Hitting the jackpot at a gas station for a half bucket of wheel weights is a good high as well. I can quit tomorrow if I want to. Really I can. :uhoh:

It appears that I'm in a gateway scenario. How long before baggies of brass in the back of the sock drawer? :)

I was thinking of setting up to feed my 1911, but now there's a little voice taunting me to try different powders. Anyone want to make a recommendation for 180gr FMJ in .40 S&W? I am using Bullseye at this point.

Marlin, I have been keeping notes on the different loads, but I hadn't yet dedicated a notebook.

I don't personally load for the 40 S&W but a few friends do. From what I'm told Hodgdon Longshot is a very popular powder for the 40 S&W and 10mm. I've used it in the 9mm and my son prefers shooting that ammo above all other. Winchester's new AutoComp is getting GREAT reviews and not only for short high pressure semi-auto calibers. I would give AutoComp a try along with Longshot if you're looking for a new powder for the 40 S&W.
 
Universal Clays is great for .40. Burns clean and is accurate from light to heavy loads with bullet weights from 155 to 180 Gr.

For the "newbies" let me underscore the man said Universal Clays.

It's unfortunate, but there are several popular powders named "Clays" and you don't ever want to get them confused.
