Guys, try as I might, I can't find a reference anywhere to mate up Butler Creek flip-up scope covers to Leupold scope models. You'd think with the popularity of both, SOMEBODY (reading this, Midway, Cabelas, SWFA?) would PUBLISH a definitive "This scope requires that Butler Creek cap". But NOOOOOOOO, you get to decide whether your 40mm AO scope needs a 39.8 or 40.2 or maybe 41mm objective cover.

Damnit.

Hutch:
Have you tried asking Leupold or Butler Creek for that matter, what size
fits what-ever? Just a question.

I couldn't find the exact covers for mine either. I finally called Leupold and they told me the model number to order. Called Butler Creek to verify and then started shopping.

Worked out perfectly.

Call? As in, telephone? What a quaint idea. Wish I'd thought of that...

I usually do my online shopping during non bidness hours, and never considered putting it off until I could confer with a protoplasmic entity. And so I shall...

I still wish I could just click thru somehow....

I wish Leupold wouldn't be such cheap asses and would put at least some lens protection in the box!!

If you get a 2008 Cabala's Shooting catalog, or Fall general catalog, they list a number beside almost every scope in the catalog to order Butler-Creek covers.

There is also a Butler-Creek chart with a bunch of full-size rings.
You just set your scope down on it and it tells you which size to get.

I called Leupold and they emailed me a PDF that Butler Creek put out. PM me if you want it.

Interesting thread. I've been struggling to find flip-up covers for my Weaver Classic V-24 6-24x42 scope. Called Butler Creek, they did not have "technical" person to answer. Can anyone point me to a right size/cover number? TIA

Don't know if this will help or not

http://www.eabco.com/BCChart.pdf

I've got an old Colt 3x scope on an AR and am having a hard time finding an objective cover to fit it-dealer stocks only certain sizes so I can't try out ranges in the scope's ballpark sizewise.

I called Butler Creek and wondered if they had a downloadable version of the "Ring Chart" the dealer has-I was told they no longer use this chart and it's not available.
Best I can come up with is the PDF listed above.

BTW...benchrest competitor at the shop has some Leupold covers for his Leupold scope, but they're pricey! They're magnetic and flip completely open (lay flat across top of scope). Appear to be much nicer than Butler Creek, but much higher priced!

If you go to Midway USA's website and look up your scope, it will list the objective and ocular bell outside diameters. With this information, you can look it up on BC's diameter cross reference list and choose the right cover (which you can also see at Midway).

For instance, the Leupold VX-II Rifle Scope 6-18x 40mm, the OD of the bells are listed as:

Technical Information

Tube Diameter: 1"
Objective Diameter: 45.7 mm
Ocular Diameter: 41 mm
