Hi, my name is ARLover and I'm a gunaholic. I have found that shooting is very addicting and I realize I am not alone. Unfortunately, so is buying new firearms. Again I know I'm not alone.

In an attempt to control my obsessive thinking and compulsive buying I have been restricting my new purchases. Not easy.

In doing this I have discovered that the more I shoot the less I want to buy. Sounds odd, however, I realize now that sometimes I would buy a gun when I really just wanted to shoot one.

So now I try and fire off even just a few rounds a day as my therapy. I live in the country so it's a bit easier but if you suffer from the same affliction try shooting every chance you get. Even if I can't pour lead at the targets (eldery neighbors I respect greatly who like the quiet) or shoot long ranges at home, just pulling the trigger a few time and hearing a gun go bang can be very satisfying. It also helps me appreciate what I already own.

Any other tips for avoiding mewantmebuynowism would be appreciated.:)

Hi ARLover, and welcome to this group therapy session.

You could find another expensive hobby (addiction) to eat up some of the money you are tempted to use on this addiction, but that isn't really a recommended remedy.:D

The more I hang out at THR, the more different cool stuff I want. (and buy when I can) You guys and gals are killing me showing off all your cool guns.

But I can quit any time I want. :D

I swear there is no monkey on my back whatsoever! I just do a little recreational buying/shooting form time to time.... I mean really what's the big deal?! it's just a sometimes social thing I SWEAR!!!

I have the same problem. Every time I buy a new gun, there's another I want.

But once I get that CW9, I'll be done. Till I need a Mateba. Then maybe a bolt rifle. Ooh! I don't have a 12ga yet...

I actually agree to a point. The less I shoot, the more often I find myself looking at new toys. When I used to compete the most, I bought very few guns.

The monkey on my back is trained to hand me spare mags. Why would I want to get rid of him? :neener:

If you are married, just tell your wife how much you've sunk into firearms, ammo, reloading supplies and accessories. That should put a damper in your spending habits!

Before joining THR, all I wanted is a Walther P22. I just need something to plink and target shoot. But now, i have an HK P30 and Walther PPS. And my next grocery list is:

(3) AR-15s
(1) Beretta CX4 Storm .40 S&W
(1) Kel-Tec Sub 2000 9mm
(1) HK P2000 9mm
(1) HK P2000SK 9mm
(1) Walther P99 9mm
(1) Springfield XD-9 Subcompact 9mm

After that, that will be enough (I hope) :D

All I need is a Ruger GP100. Well, that and a Remington 870, but that's all I need. A Ruger GP100 and a Remington 870. And this Rock Island Tactical. But that's all I need, a Ruger GP100, a Remington 870 and a Rock Island Tactical. Oh, and that CZ 452 LUX. But, that's all. A Ruger GP100, a Remington 870, a Rock Island Tactical and a CZ 452 LUX. Okay, and......

All I need is the Sig SG 556 I was eyeing at the store this afternoon. Too bad it's 2 grand. And if I bought it I'd need a flip up rear iron sight, front grip, and an Aimpoint. Gotta convince the wife I need a 5.56x45 NATO carbine. "But hon, I've already got AR mags and I can get a cool sling and the front grip on the cheap at the surplus store ... "

having many guns without the right targeting systems is kind of pointless. acquiring top of the line optics and sensors should keep you busy for a while.

I hear ya. And after having bought numerous guns, the thoughts creep into your head: Do I have too many? Look how much ammo I have to keep stocked now! And what about that saying, "Fear the man who only has one gun" - presumably because he knows how to use it -- Soooo, I tell myself: I only have one .44 mag; I only have one .357; I only have one .45 ACP; I only have one 9 mm (ok, I have two - guilty pleasure!) etc etc etc. :D
