The civilian firearm industry has a major impact on conservation and tax revenue.
Per the Pittman-Robertson federal excise tax collection report:
$76,800,00 generated for conservation through excise tax collection from 01/2008-03/2008.
This is from wholesale receipts only and does not include military or police sales, only civilian. This suggests a $716,400,000 in wholesale sales in 3 months.
It also does not include retail mark up or state and local sales taxes. With sales taxes varying from 0%-8% the tax revenue could be as high as $57,312,000 IN 3 MONTHS USING WHOLESALE FIGURES ALONE!
To put this all into context, $2,865,600,000 in gun and ammo sales annually. Taxes of $304,000,000 generated annually for conservation of wildlife on a federal level. Finally, taxes over $200,000,000 generated annually that goes into states and local budgets.
The simple fact is, if they outlaw our guns, it will have severe economic repercussions on our wildlife programs, and anything else that depends on government taxes to survive. The money lost in taxes and revenue will have to be made up somewhere. Think about this when you vote in November.
