Gun Belt for someone who hasn't yet CCW

Another vote for High Noon Holsters here. All my carry holsters are from High Noon and I'm pretty darn happy with their Rock Steady belt too.

Not to mention their warranty and satisfaction guarantee are pretty awesome.

I vote for Bullhide Belts. I have one of their concealed carry belts and love it.

I too am looking for my first gun belt. I happened upon a Milt Sparks VM2 and snagged it and am now in the market for a belt. I read on their website about curved or contoured belts vs a flat one and breaking in a flat gun belt. The web site said "Did you notice how an old favorite broken-in belt has a slight curve to it?". And , yes I have. All of my belts are curved and they didn't come to me like that. So my question is - is it worth paying a little extra for a curved belt or are these belts comfortable when they are straight? I would guess the break-in time would be considerably longer for a gun belt as opposed to a non-gun belt.

Apology in advance if this is considered thread high jacking.

Thanks,

I wear a 35" or 36" pant or jeans. I ordered several belts from Beltman. The belts have a 38 stamped into the leather near the buckle and there is no way I can carry an IWB holster with them. Too short. Also OWB is just barely doable on the last hole with a lot of pulling and breath holding and discomfort. I just use the belts for casual wear now. hmmmm.....

Did you follow his directions for measuring? By Beltman's website and measuring my belt per his direction I come up with 37 (39 if I add two inches for IWB). I wear a size 32 waist. I have to imagine if I have a 4" smaller waist than you and my belt size measurements are coming out to 39 which is bigger relative to your 38 there must be a discrepancy between how you measured your belt and how his directions say to?

It was unclear to me whether MrWhipple was making some kind of negative quality comment about The Beltman, or joking that he has put on a few pounds since he ordered his belt, thus limiting the belts usefulness to him.

He is new to the forum and may not have found the "smilies" ( ;):D:uhoh::(:barf::rolleyes::p ), which may have clarified his comments.

Oh no. No negative commentary on the quality of Beltman's product. The belts are of the highest quality. They are simply too short for my needs. The original poster was looking for insight into a dedicated gun belt and sizing. I was only offering my experience with my actual waist size and belt size and the result.

And to answer Doc7, yes I did use Beltman's measuring instructions.

From the Beltman site:

"How to Determine What Length Belt to Order

Measure a belt you have now from the FAR end of the buckle to the hole you use most often (to the nearest inch). This is the number I need (to the nearest inch). This measurement may be larger than you think your waist is -- this is normal. Also, do not measure a belt that stretches. We need to know your actual circumference.

If you don't have a belt (I've met a lot of guys that didn't) use a cloth tape measure. Put it through the belt loops on your pants and pull it a LITTLE snug. Note the measurement to the nearest inch. The belt that we make for you will be sized to the measurement that you submit from the tip of the buckle to the center fit hole (see image above).

A word about sizing: You are about to buy a dual layer gun belt made from a selection of several different leathers; bull hide, horse hide, or elephant, or a combination of two of them. Our belts are designed to be stiff and firm to support your side arms and other gear. They will do all of that very well, however, they will not defy gravity! If you hang a two pound pistol on ANY belt and don't buckle it up snugly enough, it's going to sag. (It's a leather belt, not a steel I-beam!) This should be remembered as you are choosing which hole in your current belt to measure to, especially if you are going to be carrying IWB. Put the gear on! Adjust it to the proper snugness for security and comfort. Look at which hole you are using and measure to THAT hole. The belt we make for you will be that length from the tip of the buckle to the center hole.

Many of our customers use the same belt for IWB carry and every day wear, whether they are carrying a holstered pistol or not. If this is what you have in mind, and you carry IWB often enough, and if the measurement is significantly different (2 inches or more), you can order a belt IN BETWEEN the two measurements. If you carry IWB every day, measure that way. If you don't carry IWB at all, measure normally as described above. "

I seriously doubt MrWhipple followed this advise. More likely, looked at the size marked on some jeans and added 2".

I have pants that vary widely in size but are all marked the same.

Take what gear you want to carry, put it on what belt you have, cinch it up to a comfortable fit, take all gear off, measure belt with a tape measure.

GOOD TO GO

From who?

Of course we'd like to see your feedback, and pictures, of course, when it comes in.

Beltman. I ordered it one inch up from my current sizing per his directions. I was pretty fairly set on his product before I started this thread which was one of the reasons I said I was asking about sizing for a future-but-not-current CCW and not really for product recommendations. I will certainly keep an eye on the other MFGs listed in this thread, but I like the look and style of his belts the best.

I will update when it comes in!

You won't be disappointed with Beltman. I started with a used cowhide, came across a used sharkskin, loved them so that I ordered an Elephant. Killer belts.

Wilderness Tactical Instructor

I have been wearing my instructors belt for many years. I always wear an untucked over shirt so a good looking leather belt would not be seen anyhow.

I have had very good luck ordering both leather and tactical nylon belts from Cabela's when they are on sale for at most 1/3 of the price of a "gunbelt". These are very nice and very thick belts.

I know you ordered a leather Beltman but you might also consider the nylon option too. I like different belts depending on how I'm dressed.

I recently received an EDC belt from SOE. Best purchase ever and well worth the money! This thing is rock solid and will support a ton of weight. Very light and super comfortable. I put all kinds of stuff on mine to test it out: OWB M&P40c, OWB spare .40 mag, IWB Shield back-up, flashlight, a multi-tool, binoculars, and a hunting knife. It held all of it comfortably no problem (not that I ever carry that much).

If anything goes wrong with it, SOE will make it right. There are several belt options and you can get them Velcro-lined for different pouches, holsters, etc and it will all stay in place. Mine has the Velcro for one of my IWB holsters...it doesn't move at all. They also make a lot of other great gear that is more on the "tactical" side.
