I actually started this thread once before then searched and found a ton posts on buyback programs so I deleted it. Then saw none of them had what I was looking for.

If you were going to go to a buyback program and attempt to buy some of the weapons so they aren't destroyed, how would you go about protecting yourself/having your new acquisitions checked for having been stolen or used in a crime (since i doubt some will be unwilling to give a receipt)?

Short answer: you can't. Non LEOs don't have access to the system listing stolen guns. If you want, you can require that they sign a bill of sale or you won't buy the gun.

I'd also probably try to video (or at least audio record) yourself just in case you get any hassles form LEOs or whoever is running the event.
