Gun buybacks

My opinion of gun buyback programs? They are GREAT!!!
Here is a place where people bring guns and are only expecting to get what, $50 for them? Stroll through the line, find something you like, and offer $60.

Seriously though, are there any gun buyback programs in the southeast?

I live in SC and would be willing to drive to NC or GA for one of these programs. Let me explain.

Aside from the above mentioned reason, I do have a few guns that are really crappy (none of which I purchased, they just came into my possession through various random ways - all of them legal) that I don't want to sell to anyone and are not worth getting fixed. If I could get $50 each for these guns that I paid nothing for, while keeping them out of circulation (a few are possibly dangerous), this would be wonderful.

I'd also LOVE to find one of the camera crews that show up at these events. I want to be interviewed.
"Why are you getting rid of these guns, sir?"
"Well, I'm gonna get rid of these crappy guns and use the money to go buy a NICE GUN!"

So all you guys from GA and NC - do you have these programs or are they only in more anti gun ares?

All of those so-called "buy-back programs" are pure BS.

They ain't get my gun(s) for no $50.00@ piece!

It happened here in CA. One dealer took all his "junk" guns (couldn't be repaired or sold) and "sold" them for $50 apiece. These are the stuff that no one here at THR would want to shoot.

I read a story recently where a municipality was offering $100
per working gun (at least upon casual inspection).
One fellow went and bought out an entire dealer stock of
$39 Raven .25 autos. Turned out to be 15 total.

Nice tidy profit. Not sure what he bought with the cash.

Has become fashionable to point out these things are gun "buy-ups", as the gov't can't buy back sumpin they never owned in the 1st place.

I think there have been a few in Atlanta, but they're rate in these parts.

Yeah goto walmart and but a $20 BB gun, then go down and get $50 for it????? sounds good to me, wish they had buybacks around more often.

I love it when they show them on the news... talking abuot how the streets just might be safer now that there 'weapons' are off the streets. The camera pans across a table full of rusted out junk pistols, BB guns, but not one of tehm was a functional firearm.

Ala Dan - if you saw the guns I want to unload at one of these events, you'd understand why getting $50 for them is a ripoff (for whoever paid the $50, not me).

I thought about carrying the little .25 around to give to a mugger if I ever encounter one. It would be funny to see him try to shoot me and end up with a slide sticking out of his eyeball

liquid, dont you realize that here in SC we dont need gun buybacks. the '68 handgun act took care of handgun misuse by making it illegal to purchase more than 1 per month.

There was one around these parts back in December. City was giving a $50 voucher per gun, with a limit of 40 vouchers. Me and bud cleaned out all the old junk Ravens and the like from our dealer. Something like 27 in all.

We get there and it's a 3 gun limit, but I was told "next time we have one, you can come back and sell 3 more."

Next time, instead of two of us going, there will be at least 5 of us!

Selling junk to them is a great idea. It helps bankrupt them.

Another good idea. Subscribe to the newsletters, (NOT E-mail) of the anti gun groups. Let them pay printing costs and postage to send you their puke. You can always use it to light your Bar B Que or fireplace. Or if you have a rural cabin, use it in the outhouse.

I don't know why everyone lists the Raven...I own one and once I replaced the recoil spring, it has never had a single failure. NOT ONE! I carry it as a pocket gun along with my Glock 17 and Springfield 1911A1 Mil-Spec 9mm. My little Raven has had less (zero) failures that my friend's H&K USP. As long as it is reliable, I like it.

I bought the Raven the morning I turned 21 (already had my Glock) but I just wanted to say I bought a handgun the morning I turned 21...and I ended up liking the gun. Not very accurate, but it looks like a wallet in your pocket with a nylon holster.

Because Ravens retail for less than $40, there are a lot of them out there. Many of the people who buy $40 guns are less likely than you or I to take care of them. Many people who do not take care of their equipment, have equipment that breaks down.

I mentioned Ravens because in the box my dealer gave me, of the 27 pistols, over half were Ravens.

I like the idea of gun buy backs. It is volentary and not invasive. Why would anyone object to it? I should get a couple of old beaters just to sell them back if it ever happens around here. For the first time I don't have a singel gun that I would take $50 or even $100 for, I always had a junker around but not now. I guess I am becoming up scale.

by buying up cheap guns and selling them to the ANTI's you are...
1) giving creedance to thier efforts
2) depriving a poor person of an affordable means of self defense

i say let them sit at thier little fold up tables all dayw/o anyone showing up and sooner or later they will figure out its a waste of time.

My brother does gun repair on the side.He made good money on the last buyback in his area.All the guns where nonrepairable and any good parts he removed fo rhis parts box.Sold the rest and if I remember right made about 500.00.
No one was deprived of a firearm for defense because none where repairable.

Yeah, I carry a LOT. In the Glock 17 I have 1+17+17+10. In the Springfield I have 1+9+9+8, and in the Raven I have 1+6. For a grand total of 79 rounds. In the Glock I have 45 Winchester Ranger STX'x (127 gr.) and the rest are FMJ. The FMJ feed great in the 1911A1 and it is hard to find hollow points for the Raven, so I just use what is available (Winchester 50 gr. from Wally World).

I have the Raven in a nylon pocket holster. I have the 1911 in a Passport "Kangaroo" Nylon holster. My Glock 17 is in a Safariland 0701. I keep the Glock on my right, and the 1911 on my left setup for crossdraw. The Glock sits closely to my body, but is still a large gun. The 1911 is even bigger! I have to wear a large dark jacket to cover it all up (I also have a magazine/handcuff holster). Otherwise I would look like a gun nut!

Not that I am aware of. I just like guns.

I am often out with people that are either not carrying just because, or they are not carrying because they are not old enough. I carry a lot to have pass out firepower to them. Sometimes if I am with a friend that has a license, but no gun for whatever reason, they will get one of mine. I was a Boy Scout... I usually have a lot of knives with me too. However, I do not look like a ninja. I wear blue jeans, normal shirts, New Balance 806's, no tactical glasses, no watch, etc.
