Let me preface this by stating that I have been shooting and cleaning guns for over 50 years. Having said that, I saw a small demo.on the "American Rifleman" TV show, I believe, about some new gun cleaning products from Birchwood Casey. They were in spray cans. One was a bore cleaner, that supposedly would dissolve copper, and lead in the bore. The next was a gun cleaner that would "flush" out the residue from the bore cleaner, and the last was a degreaser and lubricant for the final touch. Has anyone seen any type fo testing or writeup in any of the gun magazines on these products?

Hi Sarge,

Go to Midway, or Natchez. There are a lot of 'new' ways' to clean guns. I still use Hoppey's, followed by Brake Clean, followed by Mobil One. Unless you shoot a ton of cast bullets, this will still do nicely.

sgt,
I have used a product called Wipe-Out that is a foam cleaner as you are describing. I have found the Wipe-Out to clean better than most of the foaming cleaners. The WSMs get very nasty and after 200 patches and the barrel still being dirty, I stared trying everything. You can read more about Wipe-out in www.shortmags.org and do a search for wipe-out.

Same Question

I'm going to ask just about the same question as Sarge. I've been cleaning my guns EXACTLY the way my dad taught me fourty years ago. Only, I do way more shooting in a month than my dad ever did in a year (he's long gone, now :( ). My needs might be different. I'm thinking copper deposits in rifling. Is there REALLY something better about the new stuff than the old school, hoppes 9 on a patch, then a copper brush, then another hoppes, then a dry, then an oil ...

Thanks in advance ...

I like MPro-7 for cleaning. It's basically odorless (faintly smells like window cleaner) and gets my guns absolutely the cleanest they'll ever get. It seems to minimize copper build up in my barrels and completely cleans out the lead.

On the rare occassion that I need a copper remover, I use Tetra copper remover although I think I'll switch to Sweet's when the Tetra runs out.

Everything gets recoated and wiped down with CLP afterwards.

I use bore tech eliminator, its a tad expensive, about 10 dollars for a bottle the size of a clp bottle, but it WORKS. Contains no ammonia, and its odorless. It aactaully removes copper, unlike some so called no ammonia copper removers. Ive actually let it sit on a penny for awhile, and it pulled the copper off. Mpro 7 did not.

I REFUSE to use anything with ammonia, ive seen it crater a brand new barrel. And have refused to use it sence.
