Gun club membership??

I've been a member at the range I use for many years for no particular reason other than you get range discounts if you are a member.

I'm a member of two fully equipped outdoor gun clubs. They both have several pistol ranges, shotgun, 100 yard rifle, 200, 300, 500, 600 yard rifle ranges. One club has pit service set up on the 200-600 yard rifle range.

One range charges $150/year and the other just gave me the "Senior Citizen" rate of $65/ year.

I'm a member at an outdoor private sportmen's club about 10 minutes down the road from my house. It has a number of things to offer: pistol - bowling pins/steel plate racks/tactical range for paper and use of barriers, etc.; rifle - 100 yds down to zero yds; shotgun - trap and skeet (automated for $3 fee a couple days a week, or just bring your own thrower and use the facility whenever you want for free). There's also archery (bags and 3-D course), a pavilion with playground, and fishing/river access. When the weather gets too cold and snowy, there is pistol and rimfire rifle shooting indoors for $3 every Thursday evening.

My membership fees are $150 per year for the family, and that includes unlimited guests. Every member is trained in range safety and the basics in how to act as RSO, so there are no dedicated RSOs (except during official events). I can shoot anytime during daylight hours, but members are asked to be respectful of the neighbors and not shoot super early, even if it is plenty light to do so.

I think the thing I like the most about my club is that I can use it any time I choose (basically), even if I'm the only person there. Also, there aren't any stupid restrictions on rate of fire, etc. Basically, if you're doing it in a safe manner, do what you want. And, it's very close to the house, so almost no travel time.

There's another indoor range in the neighboring town, but it has the usual problems of long wait times, expensive lane fees, and the stupid rules about rate of fire. I feel pretty fortunate to be a member at my club.

I just joined one last week. It's $120 a year with a $120 joining fee and you have to be an NRA member, but it is super nice.
100, 200, and 300 yd rifle range with 10 covered permanent benches. 50 yd pistol range with covered bays. IDPA, USPA, trap, skeet, cowboy action, and CMP. There are heated and cooled indoor facilities on site where basic handgun courses are given as well as concealed carry courses. It really is a lot for the money.
I don't know exactly what I look for, as this is the first official membership I've ever had, but I'm thinking I'm spoiled now. :)

If you live near Arkansas, you should check it out.

Member of an Outdoor range here. About 20 minutes from my house. They have an 85 yard pistol range, and the targets are steel. Then they have a 100-200 yard rifle range. It has some steel spinner targets for .22 plinking. And paper targets for your rifle. They even have shooting rests and a spotter scope. Nice place. $50 a year.

I joined the Stillwater Rifle & Pistol Club 3 years ago,,,

It's an outdoors members only club,,,
Each member gets safety training and is an RO,,,
We all have the combo to the gate lock and it's open 365 days a year.

www.srpc.info

It's a very adequate outdoor facility,,,
Covered firing line with 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 500 yard berms.

I like the fact there is no RO running the firing line,,,
Each member gets training on range protocol,,,
We simply cooperate with each other.

The great majority are nice people,,,
There is the occasional rude range-nazi,,,
I simply ignore them and go about my business

First year is $145.00,,,
Only $45.00 after the first year.

I belong to two clubs. One was about 20 min away from where I used to live, its closer to an hour ride now. I still belong, they just rebuilt the rifle range and its a pretty nice 200 yard range. They have a pistol house thats open certain hours and they have trap a few times a week. I mainly use their archery range, 3D archery too. They have a NFAA course that I don't bother with. They have about 80 acres and you can hunt on the property.

Just joined another range with a 50 yard pistol range, a 300 yard rifle range, and an indoor pistol range that you can use whenever there isn't an event going on upstairs. They do trap too. Not much on archery, just an elevated platform. They do have about 450 acres and are surrounded by public property so there is about 700 acres to hunt on. There is a 60 acre private pond too.

I do tend to shoot rimfire and pistols on a public range though between april and october. That range is free. Go figure....
