People will often grab hold of a position due to emotion but once they seriously think it thru (often with outside help) they realize that their initial stance was flawed.
There's your problem, assuming against all evidence that they're GOING to "seriously think it thru".

I don't think I've seen two anti-gun cultists in two hundred seriously think ANYTHING thru. I HAVE seen them do a LOT of pretty clumsy lying.

... Insert "usually" as appropriate, then. I will continue to use it as is, since it establishes a guideline as to when I'm about to waste my breath and time. "Usually," I am. :D ...
Cool. :) My point is simply that the line cannot stand alone as it is not accurate ... by itself. It requires that a set of parameters/conditions be added to make it so.

^ I don't know if they have this catchprase in GB, but here it's "That's good enough for Government work." ;)

I'm disengaging on that one before the mods raise their collective eyebrows, but the crux of my post was, "As I've said before many times, you just can't trust a passionately self-righteous zealot to stay within the bounds of social propriety."

Just to return to basicblur's OP.
