I think at least some of you are missing a key point here ... Mr. Stanley had already had his day in court, and he had LOST. The original post noted that the court date he skipped was the date on which he was to be sentenced.
This in no way mitigates the monumental idiocy of his actions. The appropriate response, of course, would have been to attend the sentencing, listen to the sentence, and then immediately file a motion to stay impementation while the conviction is being appealed. So this walking brain trust traded a misdemeanor conviction, one he had a good chance of getting overturned on appeal, for a double felony that he stands almost no chance of getting reversed.
