CHICAGO - Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker’s home in Chicago was robbed Monday, the player’s agent said.

Police and witnesses said two offenders held Walker and at least one other person at gunpoint during the robbery, Chicago broadcasters reported from the scene in the city’s River North neighborhood Monday night.

Walker’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed the incident took place but said he could not give specific details.

“He’s OK,” Bartelstein told The Associated Press. “There was a robbery. It’s a scary thing. It’s a terrible thing. He’s trying to get himself back together. Police are there and he’s getting it taken care of.”

Chicago Police spokesman Hector Alfaro said officers responded to a robbery at a home in the neighborhood about 7:30 p.m. EDT, but could not confirm that the home belonged to Walker. A vehicle, cash and jewelry were reported stolen and there were no injuries, Alfaro said.

I know a lot of NBA players carry, but I doubt they do at home. I'm also not sure how many legally carry because a few have faced charges for it in the past couple years. The commissionaer David Stern also strongly discourages carrying among NBA players and wants them to stop. Walker was held up at gunpoint in Boston too while in his car.

What a bunch of crap. It would be nice if they realized that no matter how hard they try to control crime with gun control that it will not work. I would suggest that we try to get Mr. Walker to come out and speak against more gun control.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out that you can sort of "bend" the registration policy in Chicago if you're a big enough star. There's no actual law against having a handgun in Chicago, you just have to have it registered, and their policy is not to let you register it. They wouldn't have to change anything to let some pro athlete keep a handgun, just accept his registration paperwork.

But that wouldn't let him carry, and the only way I can see to do that is to make him a sworn LEO in Chicago. They apparently didn't do that for Scottie Pippen, so surely this guy doesn't rate.
