Got to thinking last night (as I slipped my latest acquisition into the safe), if the anti's really want to limit gun purchases by the law abiding (which they do), instead of a one-gun-a-month limit, just require spousal notification (including price) when you fill out your yellow form. :uhoh: It would not eliminate gun purchases, but would have the desired chilling effect intended by all "reasonable restrictions."

What say ye?

I would end the marriage before I'd let it limit my gun ownership. Luckily, she had her own gun when I met her and one of the things she liked about me was the fact that I wasn't intimidated by it. (She used to hang her targets on the back of the entrance door and when she'd have a date over, he tended not to see it until he left. That's when she knew if he was worthwhile. I guess I passed the test)

Unless I use her money, what I buy with mine, stays mine

Ditto. I've got my own, discretionary funding....its not much but its mine for whatever I please....except hookers....
My goal is prior to the presidential election:

.45 cal carbine, an SKS or an AK + 500 rounds ammo
.308 rifle + 250 rounds
Combat barrel for my Win1300, + 100 more rounds of buck

Unfortunately, I also have bike stuff to pay for. Racing season starts the first Saturday in March, and I need new tires (about $35ea, x2), some new bike shorts (about $50 each), and probably some other odds and ends.

Luckily, the future wife doesn't care what I buy, as long as the bills get paid. My money = my decisions on how to spend it.

I make more in 1 paycheck then my wife has in 7 1\2 years of marriage. Therefore if I decide to buy something she never complains about it at all.

Seriously, can't you see Sarah Brady saying that "it's for the childen," that other members of the household have a right to know about this safety issue/information, and would protect abused spouse, etc. Wouldn't "infringe your rights" as long as "you have nothing to hide," but may have the intended chilling effect. If it keeps one more gun "off the streets.\" (i.e., out of the hands of citizen).

I hope you're all laughing at paranoid me in 10 years and not the other way around.

It's no joke ...

Canada already does this. In order to qualify for a "PAL", (Possession/Acquisition Licence), your spouce must sign the application to indicate their approval. And you are required to re-apply every five years. Just one more reason to stay single I figure ... :D

As long as its a 45 gov't and stainless, I can slip as many in the house as I want...they all look alike to her! :D

Sneaking the new marine magnum in the house was a problem - it was stainless but she did notice the size difference...damn!

ROFL

My wife is so clueless about guns when I bring a new one home she will say something like, "why are messing with that old gun, it's not shiny like your others"! ROFL

That would definately put a crimp in my buying. I'm trying to figure out how to buy another safe without my wife noticing. I'm thinking I missed my chance when she was in Vegas a few weeks ago. I should have bought a larger safe that's the same color and had it put in while she was gone.:D

Recent conversation...

with my wife when I returned from a trip to the gun shop to pick up ammo for our plinking outing the following day:

me: guess what was on sale.
she: what?
me: the PPK/S I was looking at last week.
she: you should have bought it.
me: I did.
she: cool.

Of course since I live in Hawaii I have to wait two weeks for the state to decide I'm worthy of exercising my rights before I get to actually use the property I've already paid for. Nevermind the fact that they've done it six times before.

The wife is pretty good most times about purchases. In the end I let her have her hobbies and she lets me have mine. I have on occasion snuck a rifle in the house in order to avoid unpleasantries.

This post reminds me of that John Cusak line from - oh crap, what was that movie?

ah, the wonders of the internet:

Lloyd Dobler: I got a question. If you guys know so much about women, how come you're here at like the Gas 'n' Sip on a Saturday night completely alone drinking beers with no women anywhere?

As long as the gun notification isn't retroactive, I might be ok.

Wife: when did you get that, I haven't seen it before?
Me: Ah, I got this one along time ago. (last week)
:D

Wouldn't really affect me either way. I made the mistake of buying one w/o telling her once........whew, I 'll never do that again.

The upside is that she doesn't care if I buy it, as long as I can pay for it and don't surprise her.

O'course if I surprised her with a gun for her, it might be different

My dear wife has no say in my gun purchases .... not because I try and hide anything but .. it just doesn't feature. She does her things - I do mine.

Mind you - when she comes in the office and safe is open .. she usually comments on ''sheesh .. so many''!! .... Usually perhaps because the safe gets slowly more crowded! :p

I think if the ''notification'' deal were an actuality .... the marriage figures amongst shooters would be way down ........ I mean .... stands to reason!:D
