gun culture in Lexington KY?

Buds Gun Shop has an indoor pistol range that's about 20 minutes north of Lexington on 27 (on the edge of Paris). I think they charge 8 bucks for 30 mins, 12 an hour to use the range. There are no ranges that I know of inside of Lexington itself. That part sucks.

There are plenty of gun stores. My favorites are Evans and Classic, both of which are on the same street (Southland Drive). There is also a new Sportsman Warehouse on the other side of town (Hamburg) that has a pretty good selection of stuff.

Don't ridicule our Southern manners. We say sir and ma'am. We hold doors open for others. We offer our seats to old folks because such things are expected of civilized people. Behave yourselves around our sweet little gray-haired grandmothers or they'll kick some manners into your ass just like they did ours.

+10 I remember those days. Rest her sole.

No duh... I am from there, but since I'm not psychic, I don't know if I might know them or not, since I don't know their names, or yours, for that matter.

Eat at Shakertown. Do not stay there unless you like "rustic." NICE for "rustic," but my girlfriend was completely freaked by things like "no cable tv."

Beaumont Inn's nice. And on the north side of town, the newer motel near the DQ was also okay.

Bogie, they just bought a house there moving in on the 11th I don't know how small a town it is but and I'm just guessing they'll be the "itailians from NJ"

I'm going to vist them in august. does the beuamont have cable tv?(my GF as well likes her tv)

I never turned on a TV there...

They won't be the only Italians... They used to get a lot of folks from Corning... Damn little really good food in the area tho...

I don't know if the Geracis are still in town - I wish we coulda gotten Carmen's mama to open up a restaurant...

Where'd they buy at? I used to live out the Handy Pike and off Warwick...

BTW, you -have- to go through the museum at Ft. Harrod. You'll know why when you see it....

It's been many years since I lived there (went to high school in Berea) so I don't know about the gun laws but it's beautiful country. Nice lakes, great hiking trails, beautiful rivers.....you'll love it.
I would retire there in a minute but my wife won't hear of it. She would rather dodge hurricanes here in Florida 6 months out of the year.

KY is a great state if you have a job and like guns. I always liked Antique and Modern Firearms in Lexington. They used to be a frequent stopping point when I was in town.

Kentucky state parks are great. I have spent many a day hiking and enjoying the outdoors at some of them.

I know one fellow who went to college there at least semi-normal, and now refuses to "work for the man," which seems to be anyone who can afford to pay him above minimum wage...

I miss Joe Bologna's pizza in Lexington, along with Lynaugh's pub near UK...

Lots of great advice and great reasons to move to Kentucky. I think you would enjoy living here. Only thing I have to suggest is that you actually buy your property outside of Fayette County. The property taxes are a lot lower and some surrounding counties are considerably cheaper overall.

Classic Arms & Archery on Southland Drive is my go-to gun store, those guys have always been great to me.

bogie, that's because Berea is a "liberal arts" college town.

Bud's gunshop is down there... as well as another shop called SLING POINT FIREARMS.

Sling Point is run by awesome guys. They helped me out so much with my rifle. Worth the visit for sure.

I can see what you are talking about. There were a lot of "nature types" at Berea College even when I lived there in the late 60s & early 70s.
The town people were normal though.

Berea's college students and faculty may be left-leaning politically but it is a beautiful town (and campus). And at least they put their money where their mouth is as far as their politics: Berea students are by and large from low-income families, and every one of them works a job on campus and has essentially no tuition to pay. The Berea alumni that I have known are cool, down-to-earth people. So don't write off Berea too quickly. You could do a lot worse.

I wouldn't recommend Buds as a range anymore. They did raise their price to a flat 10 bucks an hour, which is no big deal, but they've changed their range rules so that you can't pick up your own brass anymore.

And with that I stop using them.
