Gun-less Defense

Three robbers, hmmmm, you need one of these:

Seriously, give them what they want. If they don't leave then
do your best to fight and get away. Never get into a vehicle,
it's better to be shot on you own ground than being taken to
a place where the attacker has more control.
I remember someone recommending it is better to yell FIRE than
HELP since people will come to see a fire instead of avoiding
involvement.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. The numbers weigh heavily against our victims in this scenario, and while I hate the idea of compiance with a criminal, what you have on your person in monetary value is not worth your life.

One armed mugger? If you know what you're doing, you could easily come out on top. But three of them, armed and with a plan, vs. two unarmed victims who may not even be on the same page regarding fighting back? Trying to keep your stuff is likely to get one or both of you seriously injured or killed.

If they're trying to acost you, though, different story. If you believe an attacker's intention is to harm or kill you no matter what you do, you fight with everything you've got.

Its just stuff, hand it over. I live in the dorms too. If somebody robbed me going to or from class, they would get a wallet with maybe 40 bucks plus a debit card that I would promptly cancel, a beat up cellphone that came free with the plan, and a calculator. Oh and I guess my case stockman if they thought to ask about it. Obviously nothing to waste my life over. Even if I had a pistol, I wouldn't try against 3:1 odds. Heck probably not against 1:1 if they got the drop on me.

Like a few people said, if they want to hurt me, then the bets are off and I'll fight til I drop or they leave.

Two students were robbed last night in the dorm across the street. They stepped off the elevator on the fifth floor and were greeted by 3 black gunmen. I constantly am reminded of the crime south of campus in the student housing and apartments/ghetto, but this is a dorm for crying out loud. I'm still trying to decide what I would have done. Probably just complied because when going to and from class, I only have my phone, keys (car, room, parents house, ID card) and books.

What would be the best action after being faced with these circumstances?

Begging for mercy and hoping for a miracle. Three black dudes ambushed you in a very small space. They have the element of surprise and they probably have knifes. I don't see how you could get out of this situation unharm unless they spared you.

However if you were a highly trained special force, navy seal, Bruce Lee or even Chuck Norris, then ignore what I said.

How can you tell they won't hurt you?

These are barely a step up from the schoolyard bully, they aren't looking for a fight, they're looking for a compliant easy victim.

If it is three on two, and they allready have the weapons drawn, hand it over. You might get an opening later, but you can't quick draw against an allready drawn gun. At that point you are seriously just SOL.

Does your university have a campus police department? If stuff like this is becoming common it might be time to start demanded a police force that has under went some form of accreditation. I would also start pushing for concealed carry on campus. When the criminals figure out they have a better chance in their neighborhood they'll leave the students alone.

I agree with most here. 3 guns to none, not a good way to get in a gun fight, give them what they want and go.

pepper spray, Im thinking this is more and more of a good idea. I just wouldnt really like to get ridiculed for carrying it

ATG Worldwide, in Lisbon Ohio(about an hour SE of Akron) provides excellent training. It is run by a Navy SEAL(verified). I attended the unarmed Personal Defense course. I would highly recommend it along with the Shooters Club.

You would not be able to defense against three ambushing black guys with weapons. Give them what they want. If they want more than your money, be prepare to yield.

My actions would be:

* Do as they say.
* Pray to God. If he wants me to die, then I'll ask for forgiveness and I won't fight back. If it's not my time, then I'll fight to the end.
* Take down their facial features.
* Inform security.
* Get a gun of my own. Screw the rules, I have better things to do with my college time than be a helpless victim.

not defend against them unarmed anyway. i've dealt with non-firearm armed groups of more than 3 with pepper spray alone.

Stepping off an elevator = Trapped...

My first question to them would probably have been...Will you take a check?

When they have the drop on you... they have the drop on you... comply... take mental notes, mental pictures... then as soon as you can, write it down...

Post incident: close your eyes, recall, start one by one, from the top of the head to the shoes.. Record the serial numbers Model number.. of your laptop.. the cops will love it.... info is ammo..

BTW, LowJack Co.. makes software for computers,, they can activate it so that it transmits the laptops location the next time it is booted up.. it's about $39.00.. Lowjack systems work.. we have arrested more than a few with their systems on heavy equipment, cars, motorcycles, welders and laptops.. There are probably better systems for laptops out there by now, I'm just not aware of them..

So many crime victims just remember.. race, and it was a BIG GUN.. when you are staring down he barrel, they are ALL big.. even a 22 is like looking down a hollow log.. It is amazing, that even a band-aid will fixate a victim, and they remember little else of a description.

I said before... and if you insist on riding the elevator instead of stairway so you CAN see them before they are on you then that's your problem.

And when they are waiting just on the other side of the door as you open it? PLEASE, this was, unfortunately, a no-win scenario for them. No amount of machismo chest thumping is going to do anyone any good, no matter how bad-ass you might think you are

Is it really worth escalating a no-win scenario for a few bucks?....
