What are your thoughts and opinions on completing the "registration cards" that come with new gun purchases?

I feel the less I'm in some kind of books or data bases, the better. Yeah, I know, I'm in all important lists already.

Regardless, I don't accept any memberships to get a $ .50 off my dog food or Glock 18. I don't even accept free batteries to my CT lasers, yet I post on THR. Go figure.

My grandfather's S&W from 1936, in .357 Magnum, is what is called a "Registered Magnum", complete with factory original box, paper wrap, instruction manual, tag, and returned letter from the S&W factory. I sure am glad he sent that card in.

I have never bothered to fill out any of those on any product. If you send in a firearm for service they have a record of who you are and your location anyway so it doesn't really matter. I do save my bills of sale any new firearms to prove purchase date for guarantee reasons but have had no problems getting a used firearm repaired by the factory at little to no cost so far without an origional bill of sale. I guess I am just lazy in this respect. The down side would be a safety recall not getting to you in a timely manner.

I send it if it is a warranty card.
Pistol might need repair sometime?
I do not want to pay for potentially covered repair.

I never send in any cards for anything. If a product needs warranty service, all you need to do is contact the company for return instructions. All the cards do is allow the company to sell your information for marketing purposes. Don't think for a second they don't do this.

Unless they are postage paid they cannot be used as a condition of warranty service.

All they are is a way to gather some markeintg information that can then be sold.

As routine business records they do not even require court action for law enforcement to demand access.
The less private data bowing in the wind the better.

Registering your gun purchase to the manufacturer gives them a direct access for contacting you under a safety recall. It can also be a provision of the warranty. If you want to save the warranty card for posterity, I know of no new firearms that cannot be registered online. If you are posting here, you already have the access to do that. The personnel information asked for on warranty cards other than name and address is trivial and does not need verification. Lie about your income and your hobbies if you don't want them to know. If you bought the gun new, there is already a written record of it. If you bought it used FTF, there is no need to send in a warranty/registration card. Pretty simple.
