Gun Oil rag...

Another vote for old t shirts. They work just fine.
Agreed.

LOL, I might be able to set a record here. . . I did Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson, SC in August/Sept of '76 and bought a "Ft.Jackson" T-shirt there at the PX. It got faded and was relegated to "casual wear", then got ratty and was relegated to "work clothes", then I cut the collar & sleeves off and started using it for gun oil. sometime in the mid 80s. I've kept it in the same ziplock bag for more than 20 years, and it has almost every form of oil known to mankind. I doubt it will ever rot, and will have to go to HazMat for disposal, if it's ever ready. I still use it and haven't had to add any oil at all for the last couple years. Is 34 years "old"?

Dark colored 100% cotton T-shirt and Rem oil, stored in zipper ziplock bag.

I feel like the oddball. I use Q-tips, and cleaning patches to apply oil over most area... when a single drop isn't enough.

I coat my gun's exterior with Eezox, which is a dry application, not oily, and wipe down clean and slick with a micro fiber Flitz cloth. No oily rag on my cleaning table at all.

100% cotton flannel. I go to the local fabric store and buy a couple of yards of 100% white cotton flannel. It's cheap and I can then cut it to any size I need. From .22 size patches to larger sections to put a little oil on with which to wipe down my guns.

Started out with a bit of chamois in a small jar with felt wad at the bottom marketed by Rust-Prufe quite a few years back. Anymore, I just use a cotton cleaning patch with a bit of CLP or Eezox applied, kept in a small jar. This is just to wipe down the outside and accessible parts of the gun. I use something different for the bores.

CTD has a 6 pack of silicone treated gun cloths for about $7, they work great, they stretch, and they dont leave material behind.

I don't use an "oil rag" at all. I spray my guns with silicone spray, then buff it off with whatever happens to be around. (Old wash cloth usually.) I haven't had rust on a gun since I don't know when.

Go to Pep Boys or an Auto Supply and get those Cotton Yellow Colored Rags. Brand new, of course. Once you get those soaked with G96 and Slip2000. All will be fine. I don't even buy Silicon Cloths anymore.

I also use shotgun cleaning patches to wipe down my guns. I usually put three or four together in a wad and throw away (and replace) the top one when it gets the least bit dirty. Been doing this for 35 plus years - works for me!

ok cotton diapers were mentioned early. Does anyone still sell them? I'm down the last left over from childhood lol. I've asked at a couple places and people just turn their head and say 'umm... diapers arent' cotton' I have plenty of old odd shaped rags but those old diapers seemed to always do a bit better job
