Guns and knives always seem to go together, and I always see several knife dealers set up at our local gun shows.

I'm curious if one particular type of shooter is more inclined to also be heavily involved in knife collecting/trading.

I know that several of us are interested in many different kinds of guns, but what is your MAIN interest?

If you have a significant interest in collecting knives (you accumulate more than one new knife per month on average), which type of firearms BEST describes your primary interest?

You may choose more than one category in this poll.

Thanks for participating!

If you're a knife fan you should drop into the NonFirearms Weapons forum and see what our members interests are in cutlery.

Me, I collect knives and started with knives much earlier than I started with firearms. Like many collectors I started acquiring some interesting production knives but about 20 years ago progressed into semi custom and full custom knives.

While my primary interest is in defensive firearms, I collect 20th C military firearms.

Oh, I drop in to drool over the photos every week. Personally, I favor the classic custom and hunting knives, but then that matches my taste in guns as well. :)

I'm guessing most folks here are the same - their tastes in knives tend to match their tastes in guns, but that's a poll for another day.

I don't "collect" knives...

I ACCUMULATE them! And sometimes one or more disappear on me, so my "herd" is more or less constant. Oh, well, all right, I accumulate more than I lose, but really, "collecting" would imply some specific intent or purpose. I buy what I like, or feel I need. Or just decide I want. And I think I can make, or rehabilitate, a higher quality knife than I can afford to buy.

Mostly my guns are either hunting or mil-surp. So that puts most of my knives into those categories as well. Like many here, I've carried a knife for so long, most people are shocked if I DON'T have a knife in my pocket. :D

I'm into hunting/sporting for all my firearms (handgun, rifle and shotgun), but I did pick other, as I am into mouseguns for carry situations where a larger pistol is impractical or just not feasible...but I would not consider them "tactical" in the sense most people would, nor how it was conveyed in the voting portion of the thread. However I have been carefully studying them and their application to figure out how to train to get the best results out of them.

SmokeyJoe & MustangSteve, Would you say most of your knives match your taste in guns? I'm guessing classic style hunting and pocket knives as opposed to tactical knives? (I'm guessing classic pocket knives would be the best match for a Mousegun enthusiast).

I'm split up in my knife choices.

I have a few classically designed pocketknives (my work carry is a NRA outdoors penknife, aka Benchmade China...and proof that China can put out amazing steel). I also have an hold Case Whittler.

My hunting knife is a Bowie. No real reason other than I like it.

I do have some tactical liner lock knives I like as well, one of them being an assisted open. My Gerber Paraframe is one of my favorites to carry just because it's so darn slim.

My latest tastes are italian switchblades, but I need to save up a bit to get the one I want....a Frank Beltrame with brass bolsters, bayonet blade and dark bufalo horn scales. Here in FL, they're legal to carry too.

It's a definate yes, my tastes match there too....but my tastes also match in clothing, cars, etc. I don't drive what i like, as I can't afford what I like (1950s Jaguar sedan...the woodwork and leatherwork on the interior make me drool, exterior is pretty hot too, but the interior makes it that much more awesome)

My firearms trend toward matte finishes and black plastic furniture, as do my knives. I certainly have an appreciation for finer things (wood, stainless steel, and the like), but if I wouldn't want to carry it, I probably won't buy it.

I picked other.I collect pocket knives and most are scout types or Swiss Army knives.I am a plinker.I enjoy .22s the most and it doesn't matter if it's shooting old bolt action rifles or pistols or revolvers.I like them all.tom.

I have been buying and using knives since early elementary school. Real guns started around age 12. My interests have changed over the years. Currently I am mostly a range shooter and plinker. Have not hunted for a couple years.

Yes, indeed!

KY Rifleman--Can't speak for Steve, but
SmokeyJoe & MustangSteve, Would you say most of your knives match your taste in guns?
in my own case, my taste in knives exactly matches my taste in firearms: Utterly eclectic.

Deputy Tom, somehow Swiss Army type knives and .22s belong together, for me at least. I spent a lot of time carrying both as a youngster, and I still love both (I have a couple of Swiss Army knives that I never really carry or use, but simply keep because I like them.

My favorite guns are the classic Walnut-and-deep-blued-steel flavor, and the knives I collect match, classic hunting knives and jigged bone or stag folders. The knife I carry daily is a bone-handled Kershaw Wild Turkey. It's a single-blade, classic lockback. Somehow it seems to fit in with the guns I spend the most time with.

Even my CCW is somewhat classic - A S&W model 19 factory snub-nose .357. It looks like the pistol a detective in the 60s might pull out of his holster.

I mostly plink and practice SD tactical scenarios with my handguns; I'm not a hunter nor a collector. I have been a knife lover since I can remember. I got my first SAK when I was 7 or so and then started buying Bucks (this was before the folder evolutionary explosion) from there I moved onto CRKT and then Benchmade and Kershaw, never owned a Spyderco, though I wouldn't get one if I found one I really like. Not into collecting knives either, all of mine are working blades so I personally don't see any reason to purchase custom knives; they are usually more expensive and would not perform any better than lesser expensive blades (for my purposes). I do love to look at custom knives, heck all knives really, even moreso than firearms. There is so much variety with knives as compared to handguns, I still buy knife mags but not so much gun mags any longer.

GUNS: I like my Evil Black Rifles (currently rifle, but I'm working on adding to the collection), but I also picked up a H&R single shot that I really like. I like guns that are fun too shoot, but they have to be reliable and accurate enough for me to feel comfortable using them in situation that involves the phrase "You're in the middle of nowhere, and theres this really mean looking group of __________ and they are probably going to __________"

Far as handguns go, I figure if its good enough to be used in a SD/HD/Die Hard/Shooting-the-dog-trying-to-eat-my-leg situation, then it's good enough for me (So I like revolvers, 1911s, some GLOCKS and Rugers)

I selected other because I have no idea where my Hi-Point .45 fits in with all this.

KNIVES: I carry a few. I have two CRKTs, an M16 tanto and the M21(? the big folding one). I usually carry one of them, sometimes both, and a SAK. Theres also a Swiss Army Card and a SOG micro fusion II in my wallet.

Pretty much, if it's pointy, sharp, or goes bang, I like it.

I think this might just be my new mantra.

If you decide to put it on a T-Shirt, let me know.

I wear a size Medium

Hunting knives, well, my definition of hunting knives. Buck 110 and 112 with finger grips. Good for skinning dear and varmints.

I carry a Benchmade griptillian 7 days of the week. I've amassed a decent collection of knives, all makes and models, and make my own when I can find the time:

Now that it's getting colder and I'm in the woods more that blade will get a lot more use.

I've discovered that I'm buying more milsurp guns than anything lately. My last purchases have been a cz82, mosin nagant 91/30, and an m1 carbine. I also bought a columbian police Colt Police Positive Special, which I put in a similar category as the milsurps. It's interesting looking back, because I didn't set out to buy a collectible or historical piece with any of these, they were all just exceptional values and work well for what I use them for. There's something intrinsically more interesting about them, I suppose, and I know they're all proven designs. I need to turn it off before I end up with a collection of SVDs or WWI era 1911s or something else that my checkbook can't support!:uhoh:
