are gun prices trending up or down?

I know some segments that would be more likely to be banned (ar's, etc) could be up due to pre election hysteria, and that all asking prices for everything had been going up before the big stock market meltdown.

But what about the last couple weeks? are prices down? I did some gunbroker searching, and while list prices have been creeping up, the number of auctions that ended with 0 bids was very high. specifically pistols.

should we be seeing a price drop as people sell to pay the bills, or do gun prices, like taxes, simply go up and never back down?

I think that your reasoning is sound. When the economy gets tight and people find it harder to stay liquid then selling some personal items is one way to help. However, I've talked to several friends about selling their guns and they feel the same way as I do and that is that their guns would be one of the last things they sell. I know that there are lots of folks out there (& here on THR) that have many, many guns and not all have sentimental value. They are the folks who would probably sell off 10-20 guns to create a cash flow for saving the homestead or buying groceries.

Most of my friends and I have only a modest number of weapons. Some have sentimental value (inherited or owned since childhood) while others are so dead-on accurate or beautifully grained or it shot the first elk/moose/deer/antelope that we'd never part with it. Almost ALL of my guns fall into one or more of those catagories.

So,......... to answer your question, I think that gun prices may eventually fall but the owners will have to go through a spell of "tight market" and find that there are fewer buyers. Then some guns may fall a little in price - but not by much so don't wait too long.

P.S. Why has 'gun control' not even been MENTIONED in any of the 3 debates??? McCain could wipe the floor with Obama if Obama even dared recapping what he said at one inteview - "I would only be in favor of reasonable gun laws. Hunters and those who are for self-protection need not fear my term(s) in office." :barf: B.S !! Most of you reading this know it's a dump truck full of crap. The interviewer did nothing in response to that outright lie but McCain sure could. Why doesn't he?

i agree that if the economy stays tight, the used market could flood a little. The new market could be affected if gun dealers cut prices, but i doubt manufacturers will. Of course, i think material cost have dropped along with everything else. Prices might drop a little, but not enough to make you buy something that was previously out of your price range. Just a slight market adjustment.

oh, and they havn't discussed gun control because it is VERY VERY VERY low on the radar and they would both lose. It's lose lose so neither want's to touch it.
