gun range membership offer?

So I recently moved, and I found a nice small indoors gun range, they offer a decent membership, its like 200 dollars per year which isn't bad if you go to the range a lot.

but my main question was...they also said they sell you *1* gun per year at the wholesale cost...basically, what it cost them to buy, they sell 1 per year to you...

what does a normal gun cost a dealer? I always thought there wasn't much mark-up on guns? The way he said it, made it seem like i'd basically earn my 200 dollars back when I bought a new gun...but I thought there was like...a 50 dollar markup MAX on a new gun, cuz all the money is in the accessories, am I wrong?

Ask them what is their wholesale price on a Glock 17.

I know Glock sells them wholesale to law-enforcement organizations for well under $400 per unit.

I paid $150 for a year membership at my indoor range with a $125 renewal fee. Reloaded ammo is cheap, gun rentals, eye & ear protection are free. If they will show you the invoice they pay for the gun then I think it's an OK deal. A Glock group buy is around $450, LEO pricing should be around $ 299.

Guns are like cars. There is the MSRP price which is 20-25% over wholesale, there is the price that most are sold at which is generally lower than MSRP or about 15-20% over cost. Then there are the special deals for LEO's or those given to large retailers who buy quantity. Dealers often complain that Walmart sells Remington 870 shotguns on sale cheaper than they can get them from their distributor and that's a function of quantity.

The more expensive the gun, the more money you will save if you can buy at wholesale.

Around here the "at cost" perk is near worthless if the item is handled by the big box stores. Small lot cost on a 642 fr'instance is still higher than sticker at the big box. Glock is similar - a small dealer or range buying one doesn't get the lowest price.

The perk works well on low production items and many standard products not carried by the big box. Blaser F3s and R93s, any USFA and some S&Ws come to mind.

For reasons completely beyond my ken, some listings for pseudo-limited production items such as the "John Wayne" Ruger approach MSRP although my dealer marks them in the 9s. Anything getting "bootleg pricing" due to low supply, whether real or imagined, might be a reasonable target for an "at cost" perk.

Like Vinny says - 642s, 870 Expresses, Glocks, most SIGS: forgetaboutit.

It is called a "Pro-Deal". It's basically a discount for employees in the industry and you're allowed one pro-deal a year, because people get greedy and take advantage of the discount. Pro-deals are great because they range from 25% to 80% off MSRP. You as a member for that range get the same perks as employees.

Is this a membership benefit, or is it one of the conditions for joining?
If it is a benefit, it may be worthwhile but ask to see the paperwork; if it is a requirement then there's something fishy.

it's a deal, they said that they will do free inspections on your gun every like 3 months and they allow you to purchase a new gun at a discount.

Seems pretty cool I may just get one from them.
