Just read this from a Reuters article:
By David Ljunggren EDMONTON, Alberta, June 23 (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, scrambling to prevent his ruling Liberals from defeat in the June 28 election, indicated on Wednesday he was ready to modify a highly unpopular federal gun registry....
(This doesn't mean he's abandoning registration altogether, though)
The prime minister told the Regina Leader-Post newspaper that he was ready to consider scrapping criminal penalties for those who did not register their guns....
(And, Oh! By the way)
Another problem with the registry is the ballooning costs of the program, which has swallowed almost C$1 billion ($730 million) in federal funding, far more than initially forecast. Opponents say the fiasco is another reason not to vote Liberal.
