I just watched this story on the news tonight. The newscaster stated at the end of the segment "that police were investigating to see if the gun used in the shooting was registered." I was under the impression that the state of Florida does not require registration (I'm a noob, so please pardon my ignorance if I'm completely off base) Maybe what the newscaster was trying to say was that the gun was being checked to determine if the shooter was the owner of said firearm, hence, legal?

The anti gun media does this EVERYWHERE. They use a different language when they talk about guns. In this language, they pretend when they speak that gun registration is universally mandatory, even though only a few states have any kind of registration. The lying media has done this for so long that 99% of the non gun owning public thinks that registration is universally mandatory. I will grant that my mother doesn't pay attention to the gun issue, but despite the fact that I've been owning and talking about guns for two decades, she said to me the other day in reference to a gun I sold, "isn't it still registered to you?" :banghead: I've had friends that I spoke about guns every day with for a year all of a sudden ask me "So how do you change the registration on a gun?" :banghead:

The media also likes to use the word "permit" in every possible story about firearms when they actually mean CARRY permit. Obviously, they like to imply that a permit is needed to own. I used to think this was just ignorance on the part of a few lazy reporters, but no, it's done on purpose.

Which would still be de facto registration.

The infotainment media like to use buzz words like registration to con the sheep into believing it's common & legal.

In Colorado state law specifically forbids gun registration and non gunnies tell me all the time that guns have to be registered W/ the police here.

It's a culture war and we're losing the media hasn't been anything but a propaganda arm of American Socialism for years. They're just as anti as Sarah Brady

Florida law specifically and categorically prohibits gun registration.

i agree. the media is our #1 ENEMY! even more so than the Brady bunch or oBlama.
the media influences millions of people every day. and if it was up to them, no one would ever have a gun.
i guess that in a way, i can see their veiw. they go out every day and report on violence. they see it first hand. and after a while, like anything else negative in anyones life, they start to hate what causes their discomfort if you will.
if the media, would stop sensationalizing everything, quit reporting about the bad things in life, and focus on the good for 20 years or so, the whole world would change.
part of the reason there is so much crime is because the media does nothing but glorify it with all of their reporting. how cool would it be for a gang member if he killed someone, and there was no report on it in the news glorifying his deed.
when the media covers his actions, it gives him bragging rights. "see that, i wasted that middle aged jerk" and all of his gang buddies pat him on the back and support him for doing the deed.
but reporting this to the world helps the media with their cause. to disarm the whole wold. they are just like the Brady bunch in their therory. they think they actually can get all the firearms out of everyones hands.
but that is not going to happen, EVER! no matter how many laws are passed, no matter how many gun makers go out of business, no matter if all the ammo makers go out of buisiness.
if there is one gun, and one round left in the world, a criminal, intent on harming someone will have it.
all the laws in the world will not stop that, becasue they do not play by the rules.
IMO, what needs to be done is this. 1) stop glorifying murders and shootings. a once a year report on how many murders happened in the state would be enough.
2) set the bar very high, if a person is convicted of using a firearm in a crime, he is put to death. PERIOD.
everyone, EXCEPT the person who was undisputedly caught in the act would get 3 years to apeal their cases, twice. at the end of their appeals, or at the end of three years, or if he was undisputedly caught in the act, he would be shot to death with 5 - 50 caliber machine guns that were computer controlled so every shot was in a different place. 20 rounds each, all @ a different angle.
make it a HORRIBLE, NASTY punishment, make these photo's available to the public via web sites. a human body, torn apart by 100 - 50 caliber rounds should put the fear of GOD into anyone who is even remotely sane.
if the media would quit glorifying all of the violence in the world, and the punishment was severe, people would be forced into rethinking thier actions. right now, a punk kills a normal joe, goes to jail, where he and 1/2 of his gang members already are, gets even tougher, and plans even more viloence, and commits lots of violence while in jail. it is just a never ending cycle.
so, we have the media, that glorifies the violence, and the " experts" (psycologiststs) saying its not thier faulr, coddling criminals, instead of truly punishing, and giving them a reason not to do things in the first place.
America, has listened to these "experts" for so long, it has become horrificly soft.i say get rid of the trouble makers, and the rest will fall into line. so, i guess i have proved i am a lunatict, but i, for one, am so sick of all this stuff i can hardly stand it. why are we letting people like joyce brothers rule the world. our fore fatherers were tough, that is what america was built on, not a bunch of whimpy little whiners.

4473 is registration. I think in the next 4 years the gov will make 4473's a requirment for all firearm transactions.

No sir.

In California, where every handgun purchased must be reported to the state government (as well as having the 4473 filled out) and there are no "private sales" (all private sales must go through a licensed dealer, which are reported to the state government) - that is registration.

In a free state, the 4473 only leads to the purchaser who did his business with an FFL holder. Once it's bought from the FFL, the buyer can throw it in the garbage, trade it, sell it, or anything else w/o any reporting requirements whatsoever.

That "no private sale" thing will be country wide soon enough. I have no real issue with that. I'd vote against it if I had a choice....but I admit...I won't sell a weapon with out doing a check/transfer. However, I have a serious issue with registration. I refuse to be part of something like what happened in Louisiana...and I'm sure it won't be the last time they try to confiscate peoples property..at a time they are needed. The basic premise seems to be...take them and ban them from both the people who need them the most and in the areas where they are needed the most. It's too bad there are no more continents like Australia where we could send all the trouble makers once they attempt to rob your store or whatever....

You do realize that those two statements are mutually exclusive rght?
