This is the SURVEY question and multiple choice answers:

Should the legislature pass a bill allowing employees to keep a gun in their vehicle on company property?

1. Yes, it's their constitutional right to bear arms.

2. Only if the employee has a permit to carry a gun.

3. No. It's the employer’s right to set the rules on company property.

4. I see both sides and haven't decided.

Florida Update on Senate Committee Action for Important Self-Defense Bill

Date: March 19, 2008
TO: USF & NRA Member and Friends
FROM: Marion P. Hammer
USF Executive Director
NRA Past President

Senate Bill 1130, by Senator Durell Peaden was heard by the Senate Criminal Justice Committee Tuesday afternoon, March 18. SB 1130 was amended with an unfriendly amendment and then passed by a vote of 7 to 1.

The amendment was a so-called "compromise" to accommodate the business groups. The amendment sponsor never told us about the amendment much less showed us a copy before the committee hearing AND WE NEVER AGREED TO the so-called "compromise" or the amendment.

The amendment greatly expands the immunity section and, according to the representative for the Florida Justice Association, it even gives immunity from tort liability for employers even when employers are careless and negligent including when they knew something criminal was about to happen and did nothing.

Following the so-called "compromise" for the business groups, their lobbyists stood up, supported the amendment and then continued to oppose the bill.

The original immunity language in the bill was good language with good protection for business owners and should be restored. It is clear, the intent of the amendment was to harm the bill and the opponents to continue to try to kill it. We will continue to work to pass a good bill.

Please continue to check www.NRAILA.org for updates on this important self-defense bill.

Sorry guys, I had to vote undecided. Because I am. I see no reason why people shouldn't be allowed to keep guns in their cars.
However, with all we talk about freedom around here, who are we to tell another citizen what they will and will not allow on their own private property? If we truly believe in freedom for everyone, and these employers don't want guns on their property, that is also their right. If we find a company that doesn't allow guns on the property, whether as a customer or an employee, we have a choice whether to work for that company or give them our business, or to take our skills and money elsewhere. That is OUR right.
The gun battle is a war with many fronts. We need to vote every way we can, with ballots, wallets, feet, letters, etc. But supporting government regulation that happens to be in our favor seems mighty hypocritical in this group.

I look at it this way. My car is MY private property and my employer does not have the right to search it. The minute I take an item out of my car, I am on their property. I think as long as the article is inside the car, its none of their business.

I agree with scurtis, the interior of your car is not the companies private property.
Also if a company does this they are denying me the right to effectively defend myself to and from the workplace.

Been there 10 years ago, came up in a background check, HRS called me in, and I basicaly started out nice, but the guy was a jerkoff, and I told him since he neither owned the lot, or the building, he could fire me, but I will sue him and the company, if he tried to pull that crap on me. Unless he was prepared to assign an armed guard to drive me to and from work. That was the last I ever heard from him, threatned to call legal, I told him I would dial. Another jerk.

If a person is eligible to keep a hand gun in their car, then they should be allowed to conceal and carry as well. JMO
