1. there was a litter of anatolians that went with the gun theme. (i only met ruger though)
2. he's not named for hornady, but my boss has a hound dog thats name IS horny dog (and yes, its because he was a horny dog 'till she had him nutered)
3. my lab mix, southwest, answers to $hithead.

my vote would be for one of the odder names. i work in a kennel. Ruger, Bullet, Chester and all the other names that EVERYONE uses gets old quick!
we had a black dog board and his name was Blackie. *rolling eyes* why couldn't these people think up a NAME for there dog.
my vote:
Kalishnokov
.45 ACP (maybe auto for short?)
Gaston

and dad always said if he got two rotties he'd name them Hecklern and Koch (pronounce it correctly guys!)

Dad had a dog named Nitro. Gunslick, Blue Wonder, Dewey or Otis might also be fun spins on cleaning products.

Then there's Cordite or SMLE (Smelly) from the UK, Nobel or Carl Gustav or Bofors from Sweden, Lahti or Suomi for a Finnish twist.

Tula, Ishevsk or Izmash are Russian manufacturers. Stechkin & Margolin are lesser known designs.

You could call her Ackley, and after obedience training she would be Ackley Improved. Also Townsend, Whelen, Jordan, Oakley, Bogardus and Topper (after Ad Topperwein, legendary trick shooter).

The possibilities are endless.

We have two dogs named Mosin and Mauser. That joke was circulating 7 years ago that went - "you know you're a gun nut if ...you name your kids...."
Around the same time, the kids found a litter of abandoned puppies on their way to school. We adopted two, and when the wife asked me what to name them, I humorously answered "Mauser and Mosin". (I collect Milsurps.) She thought it was cute, and it stuck. Here are Mauser and Mosin, left to right. They're acquiring target lock on the neighbor's cat.

I'm surprised I only saw this name once in this thread: Mossberg. A friend of a friend has a dog names Mossberg.:D

Hey Mike, whenever you are calling for Mosin, how do you pronounce it?

BTW I love that name for a dog. If got Zeus(my German Shepherd) a couple of years later, his name would be Mosin.

My dog L.C. (Smith) passed away about a year ago. One of my cats is Marlin.

The other three pets are alcohol named. Haven't gotten around to tobacco yet.

If I ever get another dog(I'm partial to chocolate labs), I'll entertain naming him or her Stoeger or Caliber.
Lady Smith would be ideal for a cat with an attitude.

Okay, scanned thru all five pages quickly so if I missed it, oh well-
My malamute/wolf mix is named Dakota Jack
He prefers Dakota, but he's getting old and set in his ways...

personally i like shi-thead.. sako has nice ring.. dont go with ruger..i love the guns..but every dog ive met named ruger was very destructive. or look to something a bit dsifferent..like tasco, bushnell (bushy ) leupold { louis}.. so many ides...and here i am naming my new female golden retriever.!!!

my wife had a dog that here brothers named, this was back when we were dating we have been together 7 years in feb, and married 4 in feb, its name was buckshot! pretty cool when an 8 year old boy names a dog buckshot!

Barb as the patron saint of firearms, gunners and gunsmiths, Saint Barbera.
Keep the name short, easier on you and the dog. Glock, CZ, HK, Colt would work. Avoid S names. They confuse the dog in training as stop, stay etc.
Combat Masterpiece would get old.

"Hiram" or "Maxim"

Maybe "Gat" or "Gatling"

or just "Buttstock" if the dog is a butthead.
