Wanted to share my experiences with you guys to see if you all have encountered something similar.

I only started becoming more interested in firearms for self/home-defense in the last year or so, but I've had these dreams long before that.

Pre-gun dreams went like this: For whatever reason I would end up in an altercation with a male figure that I couldn't recognize. The man was threatening me, and I kept trying to punch him, but for some reason my arms weren't long enough because I kept on swinging away but he was always out of reach. Then in one dream I finally connected with one of my punches, but there was no power behind the punch, it didn't even muss the guys hair. Then the dream ends with us still struggling against one another, and I still can't hit him.

Post-gun dreams go like this: I end up in a situation where I need to draw and fire my weapon, but for whatever reason I can't. There will be this same ambiguous man, attacking me, and I will be justified to draw and shoot him, but it never works. Once, I couldn't get the pistol out of my holster, no matter how hard I pulled on it. In one dream, he was coming after me with a baseball bat, and I kept looking through the cab of my truck but was unable to find the gun in time, then I realized it was in the door pocket, but the slide was apart from the frame. Then there's the dreaded dream where I have the pistol, draw it, and keep pulling the trigger, but to no avail, it wouldn't fire.

I can easily draw some parrallels between the pre and post-gun dreams, but I really have no idea what they mean.

Do you guys have any dreams like these, or would you all have any idea what they mean/represent?

Your subconsciously feel helpless about something in your life and are frustrated that you can't change it.

Just about all my dreams have guns in them.
Last night I dreamed of a guy with a three shot black powder revolver...the cylinder was large and the chambers were shaped like a cone with an eye shaped exit... After he made me oil it down, he let me shoot it. For some reason, I didn't get to shoot it because it turned into a remote control for a small RC plane. The hammer steared it... Pull the hammer back, move it to the left, the plane turned left, etc.
Weird.

Swami Husker1911 knows all, tells all. Write your dreams down, very descriptive, plenty of words, upon $50 bills, send them to me, I will interpret your dreams. No two dreams alike. The more descriptive your dream, the more $50s you send, the better I'll be able to determine your dream's true meaning. Glad to help!

grasshopper...when you can snatch the cartridge from my hand, I will reveal the answer. ;)
I've had similar dreams...frustrating.

I have similar dreams all the time. teCh0010 is correct, IMHO. It is a control issue (or better stated, a lack of control issue).

And, the gun aspect only came into the picture when I started shooting regularly as well.

Give your brain a break. It needs to play, too...

Powerless dreams...

One of the reasons you can't punch someone in dreams, or run, for that matter, is your arms are usually wrapped up in blanket and sheet. Your dreaming mind doesn't realize it, but your arms are restricted from moving, even the trifling amounts you move in a dream. Same thing for your legs.

The shooting someone and the round having no effect is (I've been told) a normal sequence for those who have never actually been in a shoot. You don't really know what will happen, and everyone in your life has reminded you of your uncertainty. It comes out as - big surprize - uncertainty.

So, don't let it bother you. Everyone has those dreams, and they only speak about your fears, not your abilities. By the way, with some practise, you can control your dreams. That's a whole 'nother discussion.

What about mine?
Am I insane? =(
By the way, I am not making this up...had this dream night before last...weird.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. That explanation makes sense to me. I guess I won't worry about it so much.

mbs357: I too have dreams where I am manipulating something, and it turns into something else, so I don't think you are insane, but I have no idea what it means.

Perhaps your sub-concious is telling you to buy a semi-auto battle rifle of potent caliber.

hhmmmm, lets analyze those dreams......

scotjute: I'm workin' on it. Thinking about a DSA SA-58. And am always waiting for that mythical Glock carbine to come out.

Dream interpretation

I don't know what the dream means, but the suggestion is go out target shooting as much as possible until you get to the point that you are confident in your weapon and the ammo that you use.

Meanwhile bring as many fence sitters as you can and let them shoot your weapon, thereby converting more shooters.

Now go out and convert....
