Some time back I posted a preview of the nearly completed gun/reloading room (see: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=301436&highlight=room ) Thanks for all the helpful hints and advice. Here's the final version for the time being....thinking about doing ceramic tile on the walls (we'll see).

Added a recliner, compressed air for cleaning guns, central vac for those powder & shot spills, a rack for guns being worked on, and a mount for the Lee 1000.

My next task is to re-create a shooting range indoors (basement and ventilated).

I had such a set-up years ago, in a previous home. Oh I miss simply walking down the stairs, turning on the 3 vents, sometimes 4 and shooting until my hands blistered.

Then, when I was too sore to shot anymore, drop my still hot pistols into the vault, and slam it shut. After I had recovered, I would stagger back to my gun room, beside my indoor range and enjoy a (undisclosed origin) cigar, an ice-cold beer, and clean my pistols.

Every home should have a gun room and an indoor shooting range.

Thanks for the motivation!!

Doc, how can your wife *not* love guns with access to a primo setup like that? I'm mystified.

Thanks for the pics Rembrandt. They have been an inspiration to me and Thain--we're gonna start working on our gun/reloading room next week.

It won't be as purty as yours, partly because the room doubles as a laundry room, partly because we're focusing more on functionality, but it's been an inspiration watching your progress.

If I may ask, what was your source for the wood countertop, and what did you use to finish it?

..Vacumm cleaners have brushes that can arc... If some gun powder dust reached those brushes....

Appreciate your concern but contents never go through the motor, goes directly into the container. Wet-or-dry vacs are able to suck up water without getting in contact with the motor brushes, powder would be the same.

Where are the pinups?
What do I need pinups for?.....I've got Mrs Rembrandt!

Please let us know how the t-track works out. What is that above the shop vac?
T-track works great, just as strong as bolting the press directly to the bench. Items above the shop vac are brush accessories for the vac.

Where's the fridge ????
Pop machine is just around the corner in the next room. Room is too small to fit everything in.

I agree...unfortunately can't get an indoor range in this house. Besides, an LEO lives next door, noise might gather more attention than I want.

Bench tops are butcher block maple, got them from Sams Club.

I think I'd skip tiling the back wall and accessorize it with a small shelf that will hold a scale, the current bottle of powder and box of dies currently in use. As well as other little items like your calipers, press wrench and what have you.

I did this and really like how it organized my bench clutter while operating the press. I keep all my powder, supplies and equipment not in use stored in the upper cabinets, (I have no lowers BTW) then only have the powder being used on the bench under the uppers in sight. Having a powder scale at eye level while sitting on my bench stool proved useful too.

I'm not saying don't tile it, because you've done a real nice job and I've followed your thread from day one. I'm just making this shelf suggestion because it worked so well for me.

Only thing I'd be worried about would be a static charge in the plastic of the shop vac. Other then that nice little setup, now to let the family agree that we have the space for it and let me do one of my own lol

We ran a copper ground line from dedicated sanders (wood) and an in house dust collection system in the shop I used to work for. Perhaps the OP could do something similar. Static is nothing to sneeze at.

Where's the fire extinguisher?? Oh, there's a sign:D

Really though...nice setup.

Gun room $5,000

Custom Press Mount $200

Press $80

Wowing us at THR - Priceless

Looks awesome my friend. Wish I could do something like that. I am lucky my wife let me have my older son's room when he moved out. :D

Looks great but it's hardly complete without a few guys just hanging around and fondling the blued steel. I'll bring a few toys and a big bag of chips!!

But the 100 Good Husband points must be forfeited if Mrs Rembranndt was standing behind him as he posted! :D
