A gun safe in the garage is fine as long as you address the humidity issue.
Too low a humidity level can sometimes be hard on the wooden furniture of a firearm but this can be dealt with also. I would suggest however a more stable environment for ammunition storage. Ammunition is very stable and can be stored for very long periods of time if it is not subjected to high humidity or regular changes in temperature. Storage in a sealed container is a good first step for storing the ammo. Preventing it from being subjected to significant temperatures changes is the second necessary step.
Sounds like you were very lucky to acquire a good quality safe. Take the necessary steps to protect your toys and enjoy the safe.
