Ok, tell me about how you handle Slings on your long guns in you safe . . .I've got a smaller (18 gun) safe and it seems like I'm always having a rifle butt sitting on another rifle's sling, hooking it on the way in/out, etc. I'm sure there's some cool way to prevent this from happening but I haven't found it yet.

(or do all of you shorten your slings to parade length everytime they go back into the safe?)

Regards,
Dave

match slings (1907) get shortened to parade length
others are just in the way.

I am, however, gradually moving away from 3point and 2point slings to single point slings, which you wear, and don't leave on the gun. thus, no sling in the safe for those guns.

For the ARs, I have single point slings that I leave on the guns, but I wrap the sling around the stock and it stays out of the way pretty well.

For the others, I either shorten them or sort of find a way to wrap the excess "looseness" around the stock or scope until it sort of stays out of the way. Not perfect, but better than just having them hang around, and at least none of them are on the floor of the safe.

I also keep all of the slung rifles on the right side of the safe, so that the slings are facing the wall. This isn't an option unless you only have a few rifles with slings, but it's a start.

If there is a cool way, I'm up for hearing it as well.

For nicer slings such as leather, I normally shorten to parade length.
Rifles that don't get used as much I will take the sling off (I have a sterilite bin I put them in, rolled up and rubber banded).
As for the nylon slings that stay on their rifle, I have found that if you double the sling over to parade length and secure it with either a couple wraps of masking tape, or some of the thick rubberbands ( like you get on brocolli), that it keeps the sling out of the way in the safe, yet is easy to "lengthen" should you need it.
just my $.02

Well I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one . . . .some slings are dead simple to shorten, but I hate to shorten up the NM type slings because most times I've got the brass metal thingies right where I want them when I sling up and lock it down.

I can't imagine what it'd be like if I had a full safe with a sling on every rifle.

Sounds like I need to invent something so I can retire early. :)

Have a good one,
Dave

My slings are all quick detach, so I take off the main body of the sling and leave the smaller adapter on there.

I just use rifle socks as extra protection in the safe as they help keep the slings in check and keep the guns from contacting each other. Good insurance for $3 a rifle.
