Gun Sales Skyrocketing?

I don't pretend to know what's causing the surge, but I'm definitely seeing it at my LGS. Even in the middle of a workday the counter is full. I don't even think about going on a weekend.

We are seeing a surge in AR's and HD shotguns, handguns are remaining the same, customers are asking me what they should get, my response is ammo for what you already have. I truly expect another ammo shortage later in the year and prices will go up and remain there. My sugestion is to have a minimum/maximum inventory once you reach the minimum restock.... Riht now Walmart has Federal 100 pack 9mm for under $20.00... I wiped out their inventory tonight, 6 boxes, that is cheaper than I can buy it wholesale for.....

In looking over my Title I bound book for the last few months I'd say most of the guns we've transferred through are either concealable pistols or stripped lower AR receivers. On the Title II side, suppressor sales have skyrocketed in the last year.

Poor economy aside, the folks with secure jobs are out there and buying precision high-end rifles. Lead time from our suppliers is 6-12 months for the barrels, stocks, and actions.

We had a gun show in Panama City, Fl a couple of weeks ago. Prices were way down on ARs, averaging from 750ish for Olys to 1000 for Armalites. I decided to not purchase a Walnut SA loaded for $1350 (NIB) because I was really looking for a Scout. In fact, at the previous Tallahassee gun show I saw only 2 M1a's and one Cicom M14 type. The Chinese rifle was 700 and he was still having no real buyers.

Folks were buying lots of defensive carry handguns. The Kahr CM series were very popular as well. I'm thinking Kahr shot themselves in the foot over on the PM series but made up for it on the CM series. No one wants to pay $700+ for a handgun when you can get close to the same features for $400 out the door.

Obama is one of the best firearms salesman the industry ever had.

He hasn't only been a great salesman for firearms, but also for the accessories, camo, and gear that people get along with their guns. I'm noticing myself that as the election is creeping closer, that I'm beginning to see more people buying more than just the basic camo jacket with some pouches. I'm seeing more guys looking for rigs like tac vests, belt systems, full BDU's, and such. It seems like the guys buy their black rifles, and suddenly think of all the extras they want which they think might get banned, of they are tying to beat the hysteria. Even just selling camouflage and tactical gear, I am noting an upwards trend in sales. A lot of it comes from older students who are off campus who recently have bought their first firearms.
