Found this 39-2 over the weekend at the big Tulsa show. I have had one of these before but let it get away for some reason that I can’t remember. This one is in original box and with three mags. Looks to me to be about 99.9 %. Seems to have been shot very little. I plan to change that.

Nice find, especially in such a great condition!

A 39-2 was the first handgun I bought. 34 years later, it has been 100% reliable and is still a joy to shoot.

Congratulations!

Really nice find. Looks like sub 15 shots done, if any at all! Man those grips are looking so good!

I know there are some folks smarter than me here. Any idea when this 39-2 was made. #A5699>>
Thanks so much to all who have responded to this thread.

Me too. 45 years ago I foolishly traded it for a S&W 15-2 and $100 cash. I made the trade because 9mm was 2X+ the price of .38 at the time. I always have my eye out for a good one. At least the Smith is still around.

OP, that's an awesome find!! Model 39 was the 1st pistol I shot. I found a 639 a few years back. These gen 2 smith 9mms have an amazing short trigger reset. All steel is a pleasure to shoot.

A beautiful classic. Dont let this one go.
The model 39 reminds me of my classic favorite 9mm a Browning High Power.

The original American “Wonder Nine”! Great find!
Correct! The first commercially successful American made pistol in 9mm Parabellum; the first commercially successful American made pistol featuring DA/SA trigger mechanism. I have one in my 'historically significant' collection. And I've shot it, like it well.
All the law enforcement types of the era prefer it to the M59 successor.

My most hearty congratulations!

The stepson of 39-2.

Nice find. IMO, the S&W 39 is one of the best looking guns ever made. I had a few chances to buy one 15-20 years ago at prices (even adjusted for inflation) that today would be an absolute steal, I really wish I bought one then. That and the Beretta 84/85/86 (especially in nickel), I just want them. I look forward to hearing how it shoots.

Gone thru' a number of 39s, and even bought a 52 (because it felt the same). A previous (used) 39, and that of a buddy, both doubled or tripled; strongly suspect someone worked on the triggers.
The PA Staties carried them for a time.
Stumbled on to a 459, and it will be a keeper.
Quick question; are the 459 barrels hardchromed?

Had a Model 52 for some years shooting bullseye in a local group. Then had it for several years after that group disintegrated. Then sold it to a fellow I know. (Target days are over.) Sad to sell it, but it was time.
The one 39 I have now is the only one I've ever had. Probably die with it in the collection.

Very cool! One would have better luck finding a Pelosi speaking at a Trump rally than finding a pristine S&W 39 around here. I would’ve snapped that up in a heartbeat, too.

Since you want to go out and dirty it up, let us know how it shoots for you when you do ;).

Stay safe.
