I'm curious who is planning to attend the gun show in Tulsa April 2 and 3? Because of the commie flu, I missed a couple of shows. First time in the last 15 years. Even though much has changed in the gun world in the last couple of decades, I always find things to enjoy and remember. My oldest buddy is now confined to assisted living which makes going less fun than before. I'm 75 but in relatively good health and can still walk the whole 6 miles of tables. I encourage all my friends and acquaintances to go while they can. Nowhere else on the planet does this show take place...nowhere.

Sniper66:
I attended about four years ago. Very interesting.:D . And gun prices there were “entertaining “.

The cash which Could (again) be spent on two nights in Tulsa hotels, meals etc can buy another Heap of ammo — next year.

Luxury: Tulsa show.—-
Necessity: frequent Ammo consumption—-

These two semi-auto .308 rifles were acquired less than seven weeks ago.

Dad and I went last fall as normal people, not dealers, and were astounded at the absurd prices on most things... Like 60-80 bucks a box for 30-06 hunting ammo which is 25 bucks at Walmart??!! So yeah we are not planning on going to another one of his shows... I saw a sealed case of Hornady 150gr SP 30-06 for $600! I also saw a K98 with a WW2 era scope that a guy was asking 4500 bucks for... No thanks lol.

270Okie:

Was that K98 Mauser a common, non-matching -- priced for novices —Russian Capture” K98?

Many of the new gun owners reading this might know little or nothing of the Vast “system” of deceptions and “shrugged shoulders”, "all-'original' Non-Matching Parts;)from Stalingrad!"...or...“captured from an SS Officer!” …etc…regarding milsurps.

IDK, I saw it and asked how much it was and was like are you kidding me, and he said it was all original and it had special stamps and such, but I don't know how true it was... He didn't offer any paperwork about it being appraised from a collector standpoint...

I'm in Tulsa and a few years ago skipped the show. (I go when I'm looking for an odd duck/hard to find gun.)

The day of the show I was at our local Walmart in the sporting goods section and two guys came in with a very determined look on their faces. They bought out all the 223 ammo (which was considerable) and I asked, "Are you buying those for the show?" They affirmed that was the case. Dunno how much markup they attached, but I expect it was considerable.

Whatever the market will bear.

Wow, that just makes my blood pressure rise hearing that... Luckily Walmart has instituted a 3 box limit per person so that's helped somewhat with the scalping and inventory level. Like two weeks ago I went to the Mustang Walmart and saw two boxes of 270 Winchester for 25 bucks a box which isn't terrible but I paid 17 for the same exact stuff in 2020 so I'll pass for now.

I've been to several Tulsa Shows. It used to be a regular event for me and a few buddies. I went to about 40 in a row before I missed one. I've bought many guns, scopes and accessories. But I can't walk good enough to do anymore. The last time I went I rented one of those battery powered chairs but it was just too crowded and it just wasn't worth the effort. I mis going!

This show has always been on my bucket list and since I’m retired now I figured I would go soon.
But if it’s just another over-priced show I can get that at home.

I plan on going that Sunday.
Hope to find some 45 auto rim or 455 webley brass.
I'm sure most prices will be ridiculous but it's worthwhile just to see all the rare stuff.

SunnySlopes:
The steady price increase for .308 ammo over the last eight weeks might be explained, mostly, by Flippers scarfing up many cases of it,

in order to sell at Tulsa's Wannamachers and other shows.
The lowest price eight weeks ago was .50/rd., now .65-.70 (+) per round.

You can’t really blame the show for what the dealers are charging, that’s what all shows are like these days. That said, it is the biggest and the best. You will see amazing collections. I understand not going now but it should be on everyone’s bucket list.

jag22: The previous Tulsa trip (four years ago) was very interesting and entertaining. Didn't buy anything - and I cruised Every aisle with rifles, twice:scrutiny:- because nobody had a true Czech/ CSA VZ-58. Bought one in 2019 on GB.

Upon further reflection, I will consider a trip next fall, simply to have one more chance to digest so many gun types with which I've never been intimately familiar, and will never otherwise handle " in the flesh ".
A long drive to Mecca from Memphis - :feet: but such notions always involve a struggle with the desire to replace any ammo reserve which has been consumed.

This always is 'mein Kampf'.

My experience with the show...(I've attended about 30 shows in the past 15+ years)....is that every show is different. You never know what will show up. I try to walk every aisle and look at every table, but don't always make it. Since I assist a friend at his table, I get a vendor badge, which is a great benefit. With it, I have show access on Friday PM and I can buy during that time. I like the fall show better than the spring show. Seems to me that more enthusiasm shows up in the fall. The show is high on my list of priorities for the year. My wife never plans anything that time of the year without checking with me first. The friend I go with has attended all but a few shows in the last 40 years! I really encourage everyone with an interest in guns to attend this show. It is a grand good time!!!

Considering it would be about $300 in gas, plus lodgings, they'd have to give me stuff for free to make it worthwhile.

Be nice to see it, but not that nice. Actually, haven't even been to a local show for years now due to the current situation.

I plan to go. It's a 2 hour drive each way for me, so I go twice a year.

I have stopped attending any other shows; the smaller shows are $15 to get in, and I can walk them in an hour.
The Wanenmacher show is (still) $10, and it's an all-day walk. Seriously, it's an all day walk.

If you haven't been there, it's worth the trip. Just looking at the $50,000 Colts and other collections is really a sight.

You never know what will show up.

Yep. At 11:30 someone discharged a shotgun.

From our Oklahoma forum:
That BOOM was about 11.30 am. A friend of mine said he and his wife were 10 feet away. He was hit in the head by some falling pellets; they went up , hit the roof, then back down.

Honestly, that's one of the reasons I tend to not religiously attend that show. I'll go once in a great while, but it (some moron and a negligent discharge) happens way too often anymore. One year it was by a Tulsa cop who was checking guns at the door.

People are just getting dumber and dumber.

I spent time there, but not much money. Tried to make a deal on a SW Regulation Police in 32 Long. We just couldn't meet in the middle.

I ended up buying a set of RCBS dies for 38/357, just another set for backup. Not much reloading equipment available; some powder, but $50/lb was normal.

The crazy prices from 6 years ago are the new "Wow, good deal!" prices.

I was there Sunday morning when the shotgun ND occurred. I was maybe 150 feet away. Idiots are everywhere.

All in all, a well-spent 6 hours. I really enjoy The Big Show, I go twice a year.

Someday I'm going to make that show. It's only 2 hours or so for me. I won't expect to buy anything, given the current prices, but it'd be fun just to see it.

I used to attend gun shows fairly regularly years ago. But they've turned from places to find deals to mostly places to get ripped off, unfortunately.

Tulsa is usually a great show. I've been to 60 something of them but no longer go. Sadly, I can't do the walking anymore. I've bought some great stuff there and met some interesting people. They used to have celebrity guest and I've met James Arness of Gunsmoke fame, Ret General Paul Tibbits of Anola Gay fame, Bill Jordan, one of the Tuskegee Airmen, Benchrest shooter Mike Radican, and probably a few that I'm forgetting. I sure mis it!
