I live in CT and I'm wondering how far I'd have to travel to buy a firearm without any record (registration). No FFL, no background check. I don't want a used firearm from a private party. I'm looking for new. I'm thinking it would have to be a gun show purchase. PA? WV? Virginia? Anyone know?

Impossible. That's what the first "F" in FFL stands for: Federal. Most (all?) states have background checks, too. Gun shows are bound by the same laws as brick-and-mortar dealers when it comes to selling.

As Doc2005 said, be careful. Most people are going to think that you're either:
1. A street thug; or, more likely,
2. An inept BATFE agent. BATmen aren't very popular around here.

If you don't want to do a FTF for a used gun from a private party, then you would need to go through a dealer. Even buying from a dealer at gunshows means a 4473 is required.

I think it depends what you wan't

you might be breaking the law if you were buying a handgun, also most guns sold "face to face" are used.
I like to buy new so I have a warranty and a receipt.
You are better off buying a new gun from a dealer if you are in the communist controlled northeast, out west people are free to sell each other stuff without gov't intervention.
(PRK excepted)

all dealers are REQUIRED to follow the FFL check process regardless of where they are conducting the transaction... there is no exception... the ONLY legal way to acquire a firearm without paperwork is from a private individual...

also, does CT law allow CT citizens to purchase firearms from neighboring states?

If you leave your home state, you can buy only a rifle or a shotgun from a licensed dealer. No handguns. Basically, outside CT, you MUST use a FFL.

Re you cerebrally challenged? Or, do you expect the rest to be?

If you truly are... read the law.

And, have a nice day!

wow. just wow. that's all. :banghead:

...Sarcasm begins here...

Oh, but wait, there is one more thing... According to Dead Bang Guns can't he just have someone send him a handgun via US Postal Service?

...Sarcasm, for now, ends here...

I'll get you one! How about a fully automatic AK-47 that has never been registered anywhere in the US? I have a whole shed full of them in my backyard (and I am not kidding either). And I won't tell a soul...

But it has to be FTF. And sometime in the next month. And you have to come here. Of course it might be a challenge for you. My current location is 38S KC 42359841, or thereabouts.

I'll bet you could pick one up (literally) in Iraq. Maybe even a few other places around there. How you get it into the US is another story.

You want a so-called "illegal gun." That's easy to do in Connecticut according to Mayor Eddie Perez of Hartford and six other mayors in your state. Call one of them, tell that mayor what you want, and ask where to get it. Here's a link to the page for looking up those mayors. There should be a mayor conveniently located near you.

To be accurate, though, I don't think it's the gun that's illegal but the people who purchase them illegally, which is what you want to do. Although I don't think the mayors know or care about the difference, I thought I'd mention it.

Sorry that everyone thinks owning a firearm without it being federally registered is such a foreign concept. Just illustrates how brainwashed we all are. I'm not trying to break any laws. Just asking if it can be done legally somehow. Thanks for not jumping to conclusions and judging my intentions. If and when the government decides it's not convenient for you to own a firearm they'll know exactly where to go if they're all registered. If that happens you better be prepared to hand them over one bullet at a time or just hand them all over when they ask. I'd rather not have to make that decision. Aren't we all a self righteous lot.

Not a self righteous lot, just a bunch of informed folks. You cannot do what you stated you want to do legally! It is illegal, and that makes your question either one that is formed from ignorance, one phrased poorly, or lastly formed with some less than honerable intent (troll). If your intent is honorable and you are just un-informed, or just poorly phrased your question then give it another try and I am sure you will get a better response. If your intent was less than honorable than you will not fit in and would be unwelcome here.

And I always wanted to be 6 feet tall with perfect vision. Unfortunately I'm forced to live in the real world.
I choose to keep myself, my family, and even my fellow hobbyists out of hot water. Consider your actions very carefully.

Come off it, Revitup! You asked how you could do something legally that you knew darned well you couldn't do legally, then get all upset and sarcastic when people tell you that.

If you want an untraceable gun, probably stolen, with the numbers ground off, I can assure you there are plenty within a few miles of where you live. But they aren't legal. So make up your mind if you want an untraceable gun or a legal gun. You may be betting your future freedom on the answer.

As for "Federal Registration" there is none. The NICS check does NOT involve the make, model or serial number of the gun, only whether it is a long gun or a handgun. Yes, guns can be traced through dealer records, but if you think that buying from an individual will mean an untraceable gun, you are in neverland.

Besides, if the day ever does come when the state or feds decide to use the Army or national guard to seize guns, it won't matter whether one gun is traceable or not - they will just take them all.

To the couple of folks who offered advice and a serious answer to my question, thanks.
To those who felt they had to get on a soapbox, make accusations, lecture and chastise me, good job. You exposed me for the BATF agent - criminal wanna-be - troll, that I am. You're just too smart for me. I'm so impressed.

Talk to Michael Bloomberg. He seems to know how to do it. He's still out walking around free.

"Charge the Court, Congress, and the several state legislatures with what to do with all the violent criminals who cannot be trusted with arms. We law abiding citizens shouldn't be burdened with having to prove we are not one of the untrustworthy just because those in government don't want to stop crime by keeping violent criminals locked up." Yup, he might as well go to the source.

Revitup, your indignation isn't impressive in this group. You know that what you want to do is illegal but you ask how to do it anyway.

What you might not know is that several of the people who have responded to you--scornfully--in this thread disagree about some things. But where matters of right and wrong are concerned they all can be counted on to do right. Which is why we can respect each other even when we disagree.
