I went to a gun show today in Ft. Lauderdale. A few observations.

The line stretched really far back, almost like waiting to get in a concert or club. Thats very unusual for the a South Florida gun show, although common in the Orlando area. It was so crowded I should have stayed home.

Bubble style prices for ARs. I saw Olympic Arms M-4 type ARs regularly going for $1400. They were $800 6 months ago. Seems the M-4 config is now the favorite.

All those magazine vendors are back like magazines are already banned or something.

Those Steyr AUG clones are everywhere now. Not sure what make they are.

Lots of the older mint condition S&W revolvers seem to be back on the market. (Maybe people are trading them in on ARs?)

Gun sales, particularly on items that were banned in the 1994-2004 version of the federal gun ban, are through the roof as many shooters fear a repeat with the Anti-American Socialist who will become president on 1/20 backed by a Socialist Congress. Some political analysts say the Commies... er, the Democrats are avoiding gun control as a losing political issue. But we know they hate guns, they hate the Second Amendment, and they hate gun owners.

Hussein... er, I mean Obama, would love to enact a gun ban but Democrat leaders may shy away. I don't know who will win that debate within the Communist Party... er, I mean the Democrat Party. But in the meantime, lots of folks are buying like the ban is coming and they will be allowed to keep anything bought before the ban of which I am not so sure. The next ban, if there is one, will likely be far worse and they may not "grandfather" existing guns. The next ban may require surrendering guns currently owned.

What will we do then?

The sad part is that I bet half of the people rushing to buy guns before the Obama ban probably voted for him. I heard a shopper at a gun show before the election say that he knew Obama was bad but he HAD to vote for because HE was the Democrat.

See what labor unions have done to people?

You have the same guys in Husiens administration that wrote the gun ban in the Clinton administration. People have to be real foolish to think they are going to change their stripes now that they have all the power they need.

I went to a show last weekend and people bought while they could till nothing was left to buy. Will be funny if they bought on credit cards and the economy collapses where they get them for free.

You couldn't pay me to go to a gun show right now. Between private sales and online purchases there are plenty of deals out there. I think there are a bunch of people that are panic buying and they are not aware of their options. It's too bad but I suspect there will be many of these weapons for sale in the future as the panic wears off.

Similiar deal here in Orlando today.

Attendance was at an all time high. They opened the doors an hour early, 8AM Saturday and 9 AM Sunday. Lady at the Georgia Arms table said they had to open one hour early unadvertised as the show last week they almost had a Walmart style stampede and she had 50 people in line at opening. Opening one hour earlier unadvertised made for a much more controlled situation.

Even at lunch time the line was down to the street and up the access road. Ammo was moving off the shelves like Armageddon. Even odd calibers like 45LC, when I went in at 9AM, there were three full bins of 45LC and when I went back at 11 two of the three bins were empty. But at least ammo was available.

The best deal was a S&W M&P in 45ACP was selling at the4 highest priced dealer in the area for the same price as Bud's Gun shop. The 9mm and 40S&W M&P were $50 more than Buds. I was thinking about getting a 45 but I just picked up a 9mm M&P compact for my Obomination Coronation present to myself. I think that the 45 M&P was the best deal of the show.

AR's were plentiful if you wanted to pay the high prices for complete rifles, full receivers or stripped receivers. =:wvr Seemed like prices were $300 over what they were for AR's pre-Obomination stripped lowers used to be about $150, now $450, full lowers used to be $200 now $500 and complete rifles that were $800-900 were $1300.

Lots of people selling their wares, I assume private parties thinking they would want to get rid of stuff they don't want/need before they can't anymore. I was surprised to see quite a few private parties selling their AR's as I though everyone was going to hang on to those. Perhaps it is the economy and people wanting Christmas money? Or perhaps people selling at the high before the Obomination makes it so that you cannot sell it in the future?

Over all, the Obomonation has done more stimulus to the Gun industry than anyone in my memory.

Same thing here; a show that is normally small had a line out the door from 9am on; jam-packed. BUT, they DID heavily advertise this show, a lot more than normal.

Still found a couple decent deals:

1. Got a T/C Hawken .45 cal sidelock (percussion) ML with brass accents, engraved stock (done aftermarket), and double set triggers for $185 OTD, from a dealer.
2. Got a 6.5" Taurus Raging Bull, stainless, tight / like new, for $550 from a guy just coming in (not as good of a deal as the T/C though).

No, not quite the same story here. Long lines, but we've had long lines out into the parking lot for the last 5 years of gun shows. Plenty of AR and AK, tens of thousands of magazines, plenty of ammo. AR prices are 2 hundred higher for a basic M-4 configuration, but not 1400+ until you add all the Eotech and rails and grips and flashlights and lasers and slings.

After attending one last week and seeing the prices everywhere, except at Georgia Arms, I doubt I'll be going to anymore shows down here.

It seems most places down here employ ex CTD workers/pricing policies, and since they do I will not patronize them.

There are enough ffl's (mostly gunsmith's who do transfers too) to handle my gun buying needs, and the internet provides a source of mags, parts, ammo, etc. for less than half of what the local shops want.

When we get another hurricane down here I think I'll raise the generator and chainsaw repair rates since my skill/product will be in high demand and short supply just like the gunshops are doing.

Oh wait, I can't do that. that would be price gouging and the people would complain and call the state. I CAN be selective on what or whose equipment i fix though.:D

gun show lines

Lots of the older mint condition S&W revolvers seem to be back on the market. (Maybe people are trading them in on ARs?)

That's right; I saw a minty 586 with fixed sights and rare 5-inch tube at our last one (though I had already bought a rossi 44spec on the cheap by that point). FWIW, I'm also seeing a lot of older wheelguns out there, which is fine by me. Plenty of ARs as well.

All of these gun shows and dealers need to be thanking their lucky stars for Obama. Nothing else would have gotten the industry record sales in a time of such economic turmoil. They are making money hand over fist.

I believe that a 586 with fixed sights would actually be a 581.

Sporting guns (hunting rifles, most revolvers, etc) are not selling right now. It's the stuff that was banned in 1994 and presumed will be banned again.

Absolutely amazing. Where were all these people before Obama got elected ? Did they just SUDDENLY get the desire for an AR or AK ? These guns have been available at decent prices for years and just now everybody wants one ?
I think if CNN announced that there would be a dog crap shortage, some people would run out and start hoarding dog crap.
Personally, I've owed 3 Colt ARs in the past and found that I have no use for them so I sold them. Just because they may not be available in the future, I'm not going to run out and buy one. I've already been down that road.

Dallas gun show

There is a show in Dallas this weekend so my buddy and I decided to go early and see if we can find some nice deals... The show opened at 9am and we got there about 5 till 10. The line was at least 1000 people deep and it took us almost 30 minutes to get inside. It was a total madhouse... The number of times I overheard some one say "Obama special" or "This is because of of the election" was absurd...

I did notice that most popular guns ended up being marked up by about 20%. As few examples... basic AR that was going for $700 last show was pricing it at $850, your typical glock 19 normally $500 to $550 was going for $600+, hi cap mags about $5 to$10 over last shows prices...

I still saw people walking out with four and five rifles at a time... countless cases of ammo...

There was a very special buzz in the air... I cant really explain it but it was a blast just being there and seeing it. That and I did get a good deal on a DPMS lower + kit...

Good times!
V.

2 Observations to add (most recent Las Vegas gunshow):

1) Lowest dealer price on a Mosin Nagant was $250

2) I had to leave early from hunger, because NO ONE WAS SELLING BEEF JERKY! :what:

Where were all these people before Obama got elected ? Did they just SUDDENLY get the desire for an AR or AK ?

Super question.

I think that anyone waring an Obomnation T-Shirt or parking with an Obomination sticker on their vehicle should be escorted unceremoniously to the door and towed away.

The line stretched really far back, almost like waiting to get in a concert or club.

A lot of us here were going to gun shows before gun shows were cool...

Excellent questions which hit center mass sideways and all the internal organs
with one shot. Here are the answers:

1. Most of these people did actually vote in this past election, but have sat
on their butts politically (from the local thru the national level) for their entire
adult lives. They are typically no where to be found when the chairs are
being set out and the food cooked, show up at the end of the meal and
grab some dessert, then are no where to be found for clean-up and stacking
the chairs.

2. People were too busy buying 178" flat screens for their toxic mortgaged
2nd vacation home while checking their stock reports to see if they would
have enough money to buy a boat bigger than the Joneses. Then this new
item --GUNS-- hit their radar screen. Despite their 401ks losing 40% of value
over the pasy year, they can still afford a way over-priced gun. On top of
that they feel a mix of patriotism and having made a good investment. Well,
mostly a good investment.

add in for next point as well:

1) Lowest dealer price on a Mosin Nagant was $250

3. Yes, if directed by forces seemingly out of the blue, Americans would buy
dog cr@p at vastly inflated prices above and beyond the current market
price of dog cr@p. Although fresh, moist, glistening dog cr@p currently
has some value to buyers on the desirable dog cr@p market, a run on dog
cr@p would cause the entire market to go up in price including the price for
what use to be undesirable old and chalky dog cr@p that was about to turn
to powder in the front yard anyway.

4. Here is the important point: Americans are consumers first and maybe
citizens second...or third...or...What you are seeing are all those American
consumers acting as one now. Too bad it wasn't LONG prior to the election
in a citizen activist way. It would have prevented things from getting to this
point in the first place.

5. Yes, I am a harsh old b@stard, but I'm tired of finding myself stacking the
chairs before and after events with the same handful of people year after
year, only to leave in the wee hours and hear people still b#tching about
the meal in the parking lot as they're getting drunk. As I start my car to
leave, the next rant they're on is complaining about how "the man" has done
this all to them, they had no power to change things, so why bother to
vote or get involved anyway...Really...

6. This nation has always been a pot-luck event. We're only going to get
back what we put in TOGETHER at the start.

7. Was this too long? Did I lose your attention before you got to this point?
No. Excellent! Please arrive one hour early at the next event and help us
get ready. My back hurts and you look young enough for the grunt work
with setting out the chairs. I'll be adding spice to the chili :)

This run and price increase on guns and ammo reminds me of the shortage of toilet paper in the 70's "I believe" when Johnny Carson claimed there was a shortage as a joke. Within 2 days the shelves were bare. Remember the fiasco with Elmo a couple of years ago. The American people follow the piper with no care or thought. Don't believe me? Check outhow the election went.

All I have to say is a sucker is born every minute.
Glock 19 for $600+ ???? Are you kidding me. I was at a show at Charlotte,NC yesterday and they were selling all the standart Glocks for $ 489.00.
When this whole thing cools down some will feel really stupid.

The sad part is that I bet half of the people rushing to buy guns before the Obama ban probably voted for him. I heard a shopper at a gun show before the election say that he knew Obama was bad but he HAD to vote for because HE was the Democrat.

that's crazy, because no republican has ever pulled that move...ever...in the history of ever.

i missed the gun show this week, but i'm going to try to catch the one next week. i love living in texas :D

I still saw people walking out with four and five rifles at a time...

wow! here in California, we have to wait 6 months (it seems)for all the paperwork to go through... really i didnt know there was cash and carry any more in the us. c'mon people help us get california back. thanks

Yeah, in Texas, you can still get a rifle or a handgun, run through the paperwork, get it called in, and if you pass walk out with your gun.

Only you can save California... Go vote... :neener:

I went to a gun show on Nov 28th and was pretty disgusted with the whole thing. First off, it was packed to the gills, I could barely move around. Second, the tables were so crowded with gawkers that there was no hope of getting close enough to see anything, much less handle it. Third, everything was overpriced by $50-$100. I must have seen a dozen XD's for $559, you're out of your mind, I bought mine last year for $469. It was pretty much a joke, anybody buying this stuff at these prices is seriously getting hosed.

You are correct!

I believe that a 586 with fixed sights would actually be a 581.

I believe that you are correct; it was tagged as a 586, and the barrel was 5 inches, so I don't know how it came to be from the folks at S&W for sure.

I should have bought it, on hindsight.
