Gun Shows

They’ve already returned, around here. We’ll see in about 3-4 weeks how that turns out. There is a very good reason the promoters are making everyone sign Covid waivers to get in.

I don't miss gun shows at all. Gun prices are high. Ammo prices are high. I'll go if I'm bored an have nothing to do, but if I see something I like, I leave the show and go to my LGS or even Academy for a better price and service, should there be any problems.

Gun shows will return in force once the mask thing dies out. Just like banks. Did you ever go into a bank wearing a mask? Same-O-Same-o for gun shows.

Just went to one yesterday in Nampa, Idaho. 45 minutes from the time I got in line until I actually made it in to the show, because they were limiting the venue to only 300 people at a time... For me, it was great, because I went specifically looking for a particular ammunition & found it, as well as 2 S&W 10mm mags.

Ours is planned in October (the regular date); 3rd full weekend I believe (I always get confused). It is the second of normally two shows a year - one Spring and one Fall. The Spring show was cancelled by the panic. The Fair Grounds where the show was to be held and is the place to accommodate us, shut down and we had no venue. We'll see how it works for the Fall show, but things looks good.

I have to agree, it isn't the best place to look for bargains on new items, but one finds things at a gun show that does not appear in most LGS.

There’s one planned in a WNC for mid-July. If it takes place I’ll mask up and go as I’m out of RL26, one of my most used powders. We’ve got several good booths with reloading supplies.

Yes I did just a couple of weeks ago to cash-in our stimulus debit card. It did seem a bit strange.

There is a gun show here in Pasadena now, thought about going, but I've got home maintenance to catch up on to be ready for hurricane season.

I've been to two gun shows in Wisconsin, they both sucked. Nothing but cheap China made accessories and used guns priced higher than brand new ones and guys selling "once fired brass" for more than 2-3 times the price of brand new starline. If your thing is old clapped out poorly modified 1911s priced at 2k I know a few vendors.

Even if gun shows open, I personally would not go to one. (75 years old, some underlying health conditions.) Same reason I would not travel on an airplane. It's going to take a safe and effective vaccine for many sectors of the economy to become viable.
Exactly. I'm 72, my wife is not that far behind, and we both have a few "underlying health conditions."
Nevertheless, we both enjoy going to the occasional gun show - for the entertainment. But until there's a safe and effective vaccine against this crap, we'll be forgoing gunshows right along with several other forms of entertainment we normally enjoy.
On the other hand, posting, and reading other folk's posts here on THR is a great form of entertainment that I haven't had to give up. My wife and I haven't had to give up going fishing either, and we spent two afternoons shooting ground squirrels over a friend's ranch last week. Both of those "forms of entertainment" were probably healthier activities than going to crowded gunshows anyway - even before covid was around.:)

While I'd like to go to one because you never know what mil-surp you might see, I'm not going to yet because
A- The virus
B- as the world and U.S.A goes crazy there will be droves of people at the show looking to get a gun
C- as the world and U.S.A goes crazy gun and ammo availability is low and prices have risen.

Missed a small local one last weekend.
Market Hall is supposed to have one in a week, that's a maybe; the Fort Worth show a week (?) later is probably more certain. But, I'd go with mask and gloves, and keeping my distance. Unless Texas spike more and the Governor changes guidance (which is possible, cases have increased well past the 5 May numbers).

My dad and I had a table at the Aledo gun show from the late 50s til he died in '79. Bargains were to be had, trades were realistic, prices were fair and a-holes were few and far between. Fast forward to recent years and you have tactikool crap, outrageous prices, dolls, jerky, and very little of interest to a Sportsman or reloader. I quit shows ten years ago and don't miss them at all, at least in present form. Could be a central, upper Illinois thing but I doubt it.

There was one at Springerville AZ at the American Legion over Memorial Day weekend that I usually go to. Thats about a 25 mile trip but I passed it up as a dose of the virus is not worth it at 65 yrs old. Besides I have several guns in my safe I havent shot for years.

There is one near me on July 11th & 12th. Well, “near me” is 80 miles away this time. Normally I wait for the show in my County that’s 20 miles away but I want to go to a gun show and there won’t be one in my area for a few months.

What he said..even if LOTS of things 'open', including gun shows..not for me until an effective vaccine.

not for me until an effective vaccine
Which could be tough sledding, SARS, from 2003 still does not have a vaccine (there was one made, but, it had dangerous side effects when used on humans).

IN the US we are barely to 5% exposure (about 17 million Americans); and too many are of the opinion that we are closer to 70-75%, which makes it much "safer."

So, probably, all of us "at risk" (about 60% of the population, based on age, BMI, and other comorbidities) will just have to look to our own knitting and protect our selves. Which, when you crunch the numbers, will very much resemble concealed carry rates.
