Hey everyone,

What's the best way for me to keep a handgun in the trunk, not legally, but as far as protection from elements. I'm assuming rust would be more of a risk in the humid months, than the winter. Is a soft case, with a couple desicant packs, enough, or is a plastic foam-padded case better for keeping out moisture ?

Thanks

GI Ammo Can

Friend had a problem with having his car broken into at construction sites.
He welded a chain to his trunk and to a old GI Ammo can. Have a hasp added.
Cans have good rubber seals and work well for storage.

In my car I had a lock-box installed\bolted in the trunk. It can hold 2 long guns, some ammo or a combination of other stuff. I've had my vehicles broken into over the years, thankfully no guns were in them. I normally like to carry at least a Mossberg 590 with me when I'm out, and this makes it alot easier and safer. It also helps if I'm going somewhere after the range, I can have everything locked up and it's pretty much impossible to get into without ripping off most of the trunk and car body.

What good is the gun if its in the trunk ? And as the above poster stated their is always the problem of break ins to contend with. I try very hard not to leave my gun in the car unless its absolutely necessary.

I've carried various long guns in vehicle trunks through the years. About every six months or so, I'd bring it in and go over it with Breakfree CLP. Of course, if I fired one, it would be thoroughly cleaned. Never had a problem. One was in a hard case with foam. The rest were in soft, "gun-rug" types of cases. No rust. No problems. Ever.
