Collectors Firearms is about a 45 minute drive for me. I have lived in Houston all my life and had not yet visited this store for that very reason.

My brother was in search of a officer model 1911 recoil spring (another one!). We went to Carter's and Fountain Firearms. Both stores were very friendly and courteous. Carter's did not really stock parts. The man at Fountain Firearms searched for a spring for about 15 minutes. Going through every single spring they had. Very nice and very good service from both stores. In the end though, they both suggested Collector's and both even gave us directions.

When we got in to Collectors we were greeted. One person grabbed the spring for us while I looked around. I had 5 separate people help me. Asking me whether I had been helped or if I'd like to see anything. Everyone was nice. I looked at/handled 5 different guns. I have been looking for a full steel Baby Eagle in 9mm for what seems forever. The counter guy looked for one for me. He then offered to order one for me and looked up the price. They were running a sale on non Colt 1911's. 15% off. Pretty good sale if you ask me. I asked a random counter guy this question (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=367341). He wasn't sure, so he went around and asked all the employees if they knew. This question had NO BEARING on anything SALES related, but he nevertheless tried very hard to find an answer for me.

About the store itself: ITS HUGE. Theres a Evil Black rifle section, a hunting rifle section, a 1911 section, a sig/hk/glock section, a knife section, a section for ornately done up firearms (gold plated/engraved/etc), single action revolver section, revolver section, .22 rimfire section, two seperate cases for beautiful antique guns, pump/auto shotgun racks all over, a HUGE library, and accessory section. This store is better than any gunshow I've ever been to.

Well we finally left and went home to install the spring. After spending what seemed like forever installing it, we realized what we had bought was a 24lb recoil spring for a full length guide rod. The Springy we had did not have a full length.

I was happy to go back : )

We head back and the store is much busier it seems. The counter guys helped us. We brought the gun with us this time. They went and found a spring SPECIFICALLY for our 1911's manufacturer. They helped us put it in to ensure fit. If any of you guys are familiar with the Springfield Champion series, theres an extra lug that is retardedly hard to put in place. Had three people migrate over with a barrel bushing wrench to help us.

I walk back to the .22 rimfire section. Got to talking about lots of things with "Don". He was VERY nice and shared many interesting stories. Showed me a few guns pertinent to our interesting convo (nothing sales related, just anecdotes). Talked to him for a good 20 minutes! I asked about a new .22 plinker that I saw online a few days ago. Told me to go to the evil black rifle section with a fellow named "Chris". He was helping a fellow finish up a purchase on the Sig 556.

Chris knew exactly what I wanted and let me preorder it. He got all my info and my deposit. He promised me that if the retail price ended up being anything other than what I wanted to pay, i'd get a full refund. Took all my info. Then he showed me a Pre-Saiga with WOOD furniture. How nifty! I also looked at the convertible Keltec carbine. He showed me the in and outs.

Conclusion: Overall this store has two great things going for it: Service and Selection. Price was on par with average, nothing was "dirt cheap". If you guys are ever in the Houston area, Collectors is a great place to get what you need and an awesome museum to boot!

I am in no way affiliated with the store, like i said, this was my first visit there. I tend to write reviews of gunstores I have visited.
