Gunbroker: Though I had top bid, but end of auction, no.

It might not be illegal but I have been turned off by Gunbroaker's bidding practices. First is the practice of starting bidding at a figure that is below the seller's reserve. I don't have time for that. I need to know the lowest figure the seller will take or I am not interested. I don't blame a guy for trying to get top dollar for what he is selling but lets keep it ethical & on a level playing field. These tactics are tricks to try to get an extra buck out of bidders. I just say no to people that use practices I don't like. It is rare that you can't find another one like it someplace else & quite often it will be cheaper. If somebody wants it that bad, let 'em have it. Patience is a virtue that usually pays.

I usually just avoid auctions with Reserves.

On rare occasions, if the item really interests me, I will ask for the Seller to disclose the Reserve in order to determine if it is worth my effort.

At least half of the time, the folks will refuse to tell me what the Reserve is.

That mindset baffles me.

I have bid on another gun. I'll know by the time I get off work tomorrow on whether or not I was successful.

I get e-mails all the time saying I didn't finish my bid, since they went with their new system. I did finish my bids.

So far it hasn't caused me a major problem, as the price the items went for, was more than I was willing to pay.
Their new software has a cork screw in it somewhere. They even send me e-mails telling me I should take another look at items, e-mails telling me that they have chosen items I should look at ect................. Their new system may be a deal breaker for me. How long before this new system starts bidding for me, knowing better than I what I want to pay for an item?
ARE YOU LISTENING GUN BROKER?

That has happened to me also. Appears to be bugs in the new system.

I too am getting tired of deleting e-mails from GunBroker that contain 'suggestions' for me from them. After a couple of hundred transactions, both buying and selling, GunBroker's 'upgraded' operations have me using it less and less. I have really liked it and found it useful, and they made money off each transaction whether I bought or sold, but it just feels like things are starting to go downhill. Some darn bean counters must have come up with a number of improvements!
