Another thread asked whether THR members have ever owned a pickup truck. I'm interested to see how many THR members actually drive a pickup as their primary vehicle.

Personally, I drive a GM sedan with a supercharged 3.8 (L67) under the hood... :D :D :D

I guess it depends on what you mean by primary vehicle

We have a Suburban and a pickup, and I primarily drive the pickup and my wife primarily drives the Suburban.

Though the pickup seldom goes to town, we usually take the suburban.

You can't run a ranch/farm without a pick up of some sort. My wife has a Tahoe that I get to drive when it needs gas. Otherwise, my always vehicle is my trusty Chevy. truck.

If you are asking this question as it applies to firearms and not to try and turn the High Road into an automotive forum, then I drive a Pickup and have to leep my firearms in a lockbox in the bed of the truck.
Illinois takes a real dim view of firearms in the passenger compartment of nonextended cab pickups, even unloaded and locked in a case can get you hassled.
Mind you I didn't say charged with anything, just hassled.

"Do you have any guns, knives, drugs in the vehicle?"
"Yes I do."
"Do you mind if I take a look?"
"Yes I do."

Last year I bought a Hyundai Accent. Until then, my only vehicle was my work vehicle, a 2005 Silverado 2500HD ext cab, long bed, 4X4.

That truck gets 13 MPG on the freeway and 8 in the city, and that's when it's unloaded.

The Hyundai gets 40-44 MPG freeway and 30 in the city, so I drive it any time I don't need my truck. The fuel savings easily absorb the cost of ownership, plus it keeps miles / wear and tear off of my truck.

To keep this gun related, when I have to leave my CCW pistol in the car, I feel much more comfortable leaving it in the Hyundai. Why? Well, who would break into a Hyundai? It's not desirable, they're not often stolen because there's not much demand for parts, and it makes me look like I'm dead broke. Now that, my friends, is urban camouflage!

Mostly I drive a car. 32 mpg for the car vs 15 for the truck. Strictly a decision based on economy.

I'd much rather be driving the truck day to day, so I didn't feel so intimidated by all the yuppie soccer moms in their Expeditions, Envoys and XTerras.

My turn to nit-pick. :) "Primary vehicle" may be confusing. I need my pick-up for my job, but I drive my wife's car whenever I can.

Still picked the second option.

Jeep Grand Cherokee here

I used to drive a full size dodge ram and I loved it but had to get rid of it. 10 mpg is not fun at $2.00 per gallon. Also, since I got sold my pickup no one has asked me to help them move... funny, dont'cha think.

My primary car is a truck

I got a work transfer to a 100 mile round trip (plus misc local business trips). I got a used Honda Civic for really cheap (really really cheap), brought it back to life and drive that about 750 miles a week.

Truck is primary, always had a truck, always will. But for now, I don't drive it but on the weekends and when there's a bunch of snow or when I'm hauling firewood etc.

All the saved gas $$$ will fund my next handgun purchase.

I drive a Honda Accord. Not exactly a vehicle where you'd expect the driver to be on his way to the range. When I finally replace it (not for a good long time), I might well go for a pickup, but then again, maybe not.

Truckin'

2 Ford pickups here...one 4WD...in a long line of trucks over the years.
Also have an '88 Cougar that I drive most of the time, due to the fuel consumption in the trucks...and an '87, LX drop-top 5.0/5-speed Mustang that's been sittin, neglected for too long.

I traded a 6-speed '89 Corvette for the 4WD PU back in '93, and I don't miss the 'Vette at all...the LAST in a line of Corvettes that I've known and loved/hated over the years.

I'll never be without a pickup truck as long as I have any say in the matter.

SUV. Used to be a dyed-in-the-wool Jeep guy, until they lost their way. I like the ablity to sleep in the back of an SUV if the need arises despite the weather. I also like the concealability of cargo that you get in an SUV.

I used to alternate between my '97 Jeep Cherokee XJ and my SV650S moto and let my wife drive the car. Since I do most of the driving now, I drive the car. The Churky is a better range vehicle, but it is a toss up which one I take to go shooting. Back in San Diego, I took the Jeep to Jacumba, and in Yuma, most shooting areas are off road, so I took the Jeep. Up here in Pugetropolis all the ranges I have been to are accesible by sedan.

I drive a truck, the wife a Maxima. My GM Silverado has the variable 5.3 engine and will get 24.5 on the highway, under average conditions, and average 15.5 in town. We took a 2,788 mile trip in the truck to Utah Thanksgiving. The average mileage for the trip was 19.5, mountain passes included. The wife now says the truck is more comfortable than her Maxima.

We dont own a car we own 3 pickups. Once my wife drove my Ram 2500 she wanted a pickup too. So our family cars are both 4 door pickups for me my wife and 3 kids.

Its a crock.

At our matches, there are many more automobiles than pick-ups.

That said, the law enforcement guys and gals 'key' in on pick-up trucks. I 'spect its not without a reason. Especially here in NW Dallas around Harry Hines Blvd and Forrest Lane.

My 'car' is a truck. Handy for a homeowner. My bride's 'car' is a 'granny-van', complete with DVD player.:D ..Handy for grannies.

salty.

My yard has a lineup like this, right now...

a silver '01 Ram 4X4 extended cab pickup (primary) lifted, built...

a white '70 CREW cab 4 door 1 ton longbox stepside pickup, built big block

a white '83 Dodge Rampage pickup W/Shelby effects & VNT-3 turbo engine

a Green '94 Dodge Shadow, 5 speed, winter beater (also turbo powered)

a tan/brown and rust '83 Jeep CJ-7 Laredo

the garage has:

a Plum Crazy Purple '70 Hemi'Cuda convertible

a black '76 Chrysler Cordoba, built big-block

a '25 REO Speedwagon (pickup based) firetruck (for restoration)

tally: 4 pickups, 4 cars/SUV's... I wouldn't know what to do without a truck or 3 to use...
