So I was at the gym working on my Roman God like figure :scrutiny: and in between sets, I look down at the bench next to me, and I see what looked to be a glock 26 laying there next to some car keys and a wallet. When I glanced over, no one was there, but soon a guy came back from what I presume was a water break. Is it wise to carry at the gym? Also, is it wise to leave YOUR FREAKING CAR KEYS, WALLET, AND GUN UNATTENDED?!?!

That sounds a little silly. :uhoh:

Can you hold my Glock while I squat?

I guess it is wise to be prepared in all situations and at all times, especially such high-risk environments such as a gym. ;)

No, that's idiotic. I left my gun in a padlocked locker a couple of times in the old gym that I was a member of. I also carried it in a bag that was in my sight at all times while I was working out once. I'm comfortable with either of those but not leaving it in plain sight and walking off. It's bound to get up and walk off on it's own in a case like that.

I'm still trying to figure out how to conceal a gun in my Speedos while I'm swimming...

I guess some baggy workout pants with an ankle holster would be good but that's assuming that you're not running.

the gym is one of the very few places i don't carry due to my own choosing. its a pain in the butt (literally) on the treadmill and akward at best durring all the rest of my excercises. i lock it up in my car before i go. i'm not a fan of leaving it in the lockers they provide because they're thin pressboard with thin metal hinges and locks. one good punch and the door would be gone. i figure i have a better chance of keeping my possesions mine by leaving them in the car. the guy that left his pistol in plain view was dumb dumb dumb. not only is he inviting theft, but doing that is a just trying to show off to everyone around that you have a gun. not a wise idea.

There out to be a criminal charge, but so far they have'nt come out with felony stupid. Really, there is no justification for being so careless or lacksadasical.

I would never, ever trust a gym locker either. Having reviewed campus crime stats, uh uh, no way, I'd rather leave it in the car, and do so on swimming days. Any other time it's been a teeny gun (S&W 642) in a non-gun fanny pack. I'm a little concerned about what might happen to it if I am injured or taken ill.

I've even climbed our rock wall with it on. Of course for serious rockin' I've got the tac harness and rig........it scares the hippie chicks.

No, Edmond, you get two identical guns and two ankle holsters and use them as weights :D

And while you're at it, may as well wear a flak jacket for the purposes of strengthening the legs even more and for fragmentation.;)

Shove it down the front of your speedos, not the back. :D

The first time I had to lock my gun in the locker at the gym, I was nervous the entire time, as the lockers at Lifetime use the supplied key, and a master key will get them in without any problems. So, I considered options. I started carrying my Smith 649 in a snall fannypack holster, along with my wallet/badge case and spare ammo. I'd simply wear it into the gym, with a Walkman clipped on. No questions, no concerns. ON the treadmill, I'd take it off can clip it on the grips in front of me. Doing ab work could be a pain, so I'd take it off and clip it somewhere CLOSE AND IN SIGHT. Worked well for me until my first son was born, and I had no more free time for teh gym, and I got lazy...

Not enough room there.

If you insist on carrying at a gym, I'd go with the fanny pack idea. Stick your walkman or CD player in it and no one will be any wiser. I've done this several times without any problems since fanny packs are an accepted norm with gym attire. Otherwise I leave it in the car.

As for the guy who left his wallet and weapon out in the open...he is an idiot. Sooner or later he will learn his lesson the hard way.

Should have cleared it and taken the mag before the guy got back. Maybe that'd teach him not to leave it lying around.

A few years ago a crook came up with idea of robbing gym lockers, with a twist. He took a pair of bolt cutters which he used to cut off the owners lock. He then took whatever he wanted from the locker and substituted a new lock to replace the old one. The owner would assume that his lock broke and eventually get someone to cut it off for him. This could give the thief hours to do what he needed before the theft(s) were discovered.
Not the perfect crime. He did get caught. But at least one cop lost a handgun because of this. So, it's not just the flimsy lockers that are a problem.

Gun at gym - bad idea. Never seen a gym locker that was better than my own locked car (not that I think that's a great idea - vault in car is a good/better thing).

People at the gym I used to frequent were very casual about leaving things lying around (crappy lockers were just part of the problem). Eventually, the opportunists/ethically challenged figured it out and there was much grief. Your security is your responsibility - plan accordingly.:scrutiny:

1. I, too, have the body of the god. (Buddha was a god, right?!)

2. Besides, I don't need to go to the gym. I'm in shape. (It's called "round").

I am puzzled by the fact that more than one gym I know has a keyboard for you to hang your keys on while you work out. This, to me, sounds incredibly stupid, like advertising, "Here's my keys, come and rip me off while I work out." :scrutiny:

The very first thing I did with my new glock-23 was to take it SCUBA diving. Because I could.
