Guns for Long GunVault

Mine fits my new 870 Marine Magnum, and the MM is based on the 870 Express. The fit's pretty close - whatever long gun you try should closely match the Express/500 form factor.

How exactly does your 870 not fit? If it's just the interior bits (not the notches in the case) maybe you can "customize" (i.e. Dremel) the inside since it's just a plastic form. After all, they're not in warranty anymore!

But, um, don't blame me if you break it.;)

When I first started looking at the LongGunvault I was disappointed because it stated what you said, that it would only fit an 870 or 500. A call to Gunvault confirmed that. So I put off buying one for awhile until I got one for a steal. I figured if my Winchester 1300 wouldn't fit in at least I could make it fit somehow. To my surprise the 1300 dropped right in though. My guess is you're just having some trouble with how the plastic mold on the inside is sitting against the reciever (My guess is around the trigger guard area). So time to break out the Dremel!

Anapex -- Your Win 1300 fits into your GunVault? Weird. Maybe my GunVault is the problem and not the gun. I think I'll bring it into a shop and see if ANYTHING fits.

I'm actually very interested in whether a Rem 760 fits since it's a pump gun like the 870. It's the rifle I grew up shooting and I want to get one someday.

Thanks guys!

Are Long GunVaults still available? I can't find them for sale anywhere, and Gunvault.com no longer lists them.

Thanks and regards,
Michael

I think they've been discontinued.

I was very interested in the concept too. However, IIRC, it wouldn't fit 870's or 590's with rifle sights on the reciver, which eliminated my 590 from consideration. I saw lots of anecdotal complaints about fit and compatablity issues on the various gun boards, so I think the LongGunVault never got very far off the ground.

I hope GunVault is just re-vamping the product, and comes out with one that will fit a wide range of shotguns and carbines. It's still a great idea, and I've never found a "cruiser clamp" that was a suitable substitute, or as well fleshed out as the LongGunVault concept.

I never got a close look at a LongGunVault, so it might already be similar to this. However, I think the way to go would be some kind of tough clamshell box somewhat like a waffle iron, or a "George Foreman Grill" that holds the buttons, the locking mechanisim, the mounting hardware and the hinge. For customization or compatability, you ordered tough plastic inserts that fit the reciever/trigger group/stock area of your particular longarm.

They could mould them on a custom basis so there were no worries about producing too many or too few of any particular model. They could even have "drop free" and "holding" variants, depending on how you want it to deploy when opened.

I had forgotten about this thread. I found one on ebay after posting above. It fits my Mossberg 500 like a glove, as long as the factory stock is on it. It is a clamshell type of a device, and comes with a mounting bracket that you mount to the wall, and there is a quick-release latch on the inside. One of these days I am going to have a buddy laser cut a couple more of the mounting brackets so I can quickly move it to my camper and race car trailer. If anyone wants photos or any more info on it just send me a PM.
